An increasing trend across the country is for gas stations to charge less for cash. If you are willing to pay with cash, you might be able to save money on gas. This is because many gas stations are hoping to help their profit margins by avoiding the transaction fees levied by credit card companies.

Here’s something interesting that I saw on Consumerism Commentary: A social networking site, called Fuelly, that keeps tracks of your mileage and fuel consumption for you. It’s free, and it could alert you to things that you can do to save money on gas. Plus, since it’s social networking, you can share it with your friends and family.

A couple of years ago, when we were worried that gas might (gasp!) reach more than $2.50 a gallon, there was talk about prepaying for gas through a card, or for buying gas through such organizations as Gas Bank.
Back then, we though it would be the height of ridiculousness if gas prices cracked the $3.00 mark. Now we have sort of resigned ourselves to that fact that by this time next year we could very well see $5.00 a gallon gas.

With worries about a recession coming in the midst of higher oil prices, it has come to my attention that my 5 tips for saving money on gas is missing something: Prayer. That’s right. We should be praying for lower gas prices. The Baltimore Sun has this story about one man’s quest to get God to intervene:

Oil prices breached $130 a barrel this morning. Yesterday they prompted a sell-off on Wall Street. And across the country they are affecting people’s every day activities.
But why are oil prices climbing? Didn’t the Saudis up production at the request of President Bush? Isn’t the US going to stop stockpiling? Shouldn’t this supply help keep oil prices lower?
