Frideas: How To Multi-Task With ANY Business

Biz Chicks Rule

Here I am, sitting in the car dealership’s office working (happily) along while my car is being serviced. I almost walked out of the house this morning without my laptop. I didn’t think I’d be away from my (home) office that long and I could do some work when I got back home. I’m glad I re-thought that idea and grabbed all of my work stuff before I left home. It turns out that the service department is slammed today and there’s about a three to four hour wait per person. I’m also glad that I’ve learned the …read more

The Four-Day Work Week – - It Might Actually Work

Biz Chicks Rule
I work from home as a freelancer, and have been trying to get to the four-day work week for about a year now. No dice.
In order for me to get to that coveted four-day work week, I’d have to go up on my rates and work more hours of course during the other four days. With kids in school, activities and other outside family interests, it may not be possible to slide in extended days for the enjoyment of one extra day. But for the trade-off, I’m willing to give it a shot.
I figured I could work four …read more

Business Women Wear Many Different Hats

It’s true. We do sooo much, it’s a wonder that we keep it all straight!
Rico asked the question on his blog (or rather stated) that we all wear many different hats and it’s a challenge to juggle them all. What’s interesting is that everybody thinks they’re busier than the next person, and the next, and the next. You get me.
I for one think I’m busier than ANYbody I know. Yes, I know it’s pretty self-important sounding and all, but I really think I am.

Consider this:
My friends want to be “spontaneous” and what-not all of the time and go for …read more

Freelancing Moms Have To Decide…

what to do with the kids once school is out! It’s almost that time for my kids here in Alabama, and with three of them, I know it’s going to an interesting (and tiresome) next couple of months around my household.

Now, don’t get me wrong, I do SOOOOO love my kids. It’s just that I find it quite difficult to conentrate when they’re around, and being a freelancing mom, I have to consider my flexible schedule since they’re going to be out for the summer. The entire summer. What can I do to make sure I still …read more

Fun Contest at My Organized Biz: Visual Organizing

If you, like me, are trying to get organized, you’ll want to check out Jen’s "visual organizing group think" at My Organized Biz. She’s challenging readers to share their tips for visual organizers. I’m one of those "out of sight, out of mind" people, so I have a lot of stuff on my desk when I’m working. And when I’m exhausted at the end of the day, it stays there. And then the next day, I pile stuff on top of it. And then the cycle repeats. And then I can’t find my desk. Ack!
But I digress. :)
If you have …read more

Update on Kristen’s Spring Cleaning Challenge: Good News and Bad News (or, Confessions of a Chronic Clutterer)

Okay, so about a week and a half ago, I agreed to participate in Jen’s Spring Cleaning Challenge, promising to tackle the File Box of Doom. And here it is:

The good news is that, thanks to some nerve-steeling, I no longer have a File Box of Doom. I even threw out the box! The bad news is that I now have a Corner of Shame:

I pulled everything out of the jam-packed cardboard box and put it into vertical magazine holders, and added them to the collection that was already in residence on top of my file cabinet. To be completely …read more

Women in Business Balancing Family and Career

There is something interesting about women who are in business, whether it’s for themselves or whether it’s in Corporate America.
They are all trying to balance both a career and family.
Whether they have four children, a dog and two cats, or whether it was just them and a parakeet, women have always had the challenge of trying to make the life of a working woman and home life be cohesive. Balancing a career and home life can be a challenge but it CAN be done.
I’ve been a work at home mom for over ten years now and I’ve still yet …read more

3 Tips On Organizing The Freelance Life

As a freelancer, chances are that you may have multiple projects going on all of the time. You may be juggling clients or customers or even systems like websites, blogs or ezines. Organizing Your Office

Like Bridget, I have “organize my office” at the top of my to-do list for the year, followed closely by “write a business plan.” And last weekend, after putting it off for several months, I finally organized all of the stuff I need to file. Did I file it? No way. After making a “personal” and a “business” pile, I was exhausted and needed a glass of wine and a nap (which turned into two glasses of wine and going to bed, but who’s counting).
I’m one of those people who are determined to get and stay organized but just have …read more
