Tiger Woods Inches Closer to FedEx Cup

He’s halfway there.  Tiger Woods catapulted past Sean O’Hair to take a one stroke lead at the Tour Championship, putting himself in prime position to capture his second FedEx Cup, and the cool $10 million that goes along with it.  Woods had a chance to have an even bigger lead, but an uncharacteristically wonky putter led him to miss two short putts in succession.  Tiger had to fight to hold his temper after missing the pair of putts, but at the end of the round, he was able to see the bigger picture.  His 2-under 68 left him 5-under for …read more

O’Hair Grabs Lead at Tour Championship

Despite the Atlanta area’s recent deluge of rain, the East Lake Golf Club was in superb shape, especially the firm greens, which kept the day’s scores on the lower side.  When all was said and done, Sean O’Hair had taken the lead with a 4-under 66, one stroke ahead of Tiger Woods, Padraig Harrington and Stewart Cink.  O’Hair had none other than Woods to thank for help getting to 4-under, as the world’s No.1 ranked player gave his friend some timely putting advice in a Wednesday practice round.  O’Hair put that advice to good use, draining a 55-footer during the …read more

Three Tied for Lead at TPC Boston

If you’ve got the time tomorrow, might I suggest you sit down and watch the final round of the Deutsche Bank Championship, because it’s going to be a good one, even without Tiger Woods in the hunt.  Three players ended up tied for the lead after Sunday’s round, thanks to Steve Stricker’s eagle on the 18th for a 6-under 65.  He is tied with Sean O’Hair and Retief Goosen at 13-under for the tournament.  Knocking on their backdoor at 12-under is Padraig Harrington, a local favorite with Boston’s large Irish population, Scott Verplank and Kevin Na.
It’s hard to say who …read more

O’Hair, Furyk Sitting Atop the Leaderboard

It’s been said that great golfers feed off each other, elevating their play to match their playing partners.  Never was that saying more evident than the third round at the Deutsche Bank Championship, where the trio of Jim Furyk, Sean O’Hair and Retief Goosen accounted for 17 birdies and one eagle.  When it was all said and done, Furyk and O’Hair found themselves perched atop the leaderboard at 12-under for the tournament.  Goosen is within striking distance, only two strokes back at 10-under.
A gaggle of players sit three strokes back of the leaders at 9-under, including John Senden, Justin Leonard, …read more

O’Hair Wins at Quail Hollow

Twenty-six year old, Sean O’Hair bested a field of veterans, including Zach Johnson and Tiger Woods, to grab the trophy at the Quail Hollow Championship in Charlotte, North Carolina today. O’Hair, who turned pro in 1999, finished the tournament with a -11, one stroke better than Bubba Watson and Lucas Glover.
This is O’Hair’s third PGA victory. He won the PODS Championship in 2008 and the John Deere Classic in 2005. He is only the third player currently in his 20s to have three PGA wins. (The other two are Sergio Garcia and Adam Scott.)
O’Hair’s win brought high praise from Tiger …read more
