Seattle Seahawks general manager Tim Ruskell has resigned from the team. Now, many are speculating on his placement. Namely, will Mike Holmgren return? Ruskell had a five year contract with the team but is leaving several weeks before its conclusion, mainly because the team couldn’t commit to him.

I have to wonder about the timing of all this. I’m leery of mid-season replacements of any kind, especially one as significant as this. Will this move be a further distraction to the team? Furthermore, will Holmgren seriously be happy staying in a GM role? Or will he once again want to coach and the run the team?

One of the reasons Holmgren left Green Bay was because he wanted to be GM. Since Ron Wolff was not ready to step down, he left. That season Green Bay had numerous distractions and did not play well. Holmgren putting his sites on Seattle was a huge part of that distraction. But when Holmgren got the job as coach and GM, he couldn’t pull it off. I can’t help but to wonder what his future will be with the Seahawks, and more than that, if he’ll finally be content.

In the offseason, James was let go by the Arizona Cardinals after playing with the Cardinals for four seasons. Before joining the Cardinals, James began his career with the Indianapolis Colts in 1999.

With James out of the picture, the Seahawks will likely lean more on Julius Jones and Justin Forsett. Jones has 346 rushing yards, while Forsett has 109 rushing yards.

As for James, his career could very well be over. He hasn’t been very productive in the last few seasons and for a running back he is getting up there in age.

After not practicing on Wednesday, Boldin was again off the practice field on Thursday. However, he did some work on the side and the Cardinals are hopeful that he can participate in Friday’s practice. If he practices on Friday, there’s a very good chance that he’ll play in the Week 7 contest that has the Cardinals going against the New York Giants on Sunday Night Football.

On the season, Boldin has 29 catches for 306 yards and one touchdown. His best game came in Week 3 when he had six catches for 83 yards and a touchdown against the Colts.

Although Arizona is deep at the wide receiver position, they’ll need Boldin to have a decent shot at beating the Giants this weekend.

Despite not playing in the second half, Tatupu still had a team-high eight tackles against the Cardinals. Seattle also played the second half of Sunday’s game without defensive end Patrick Kerney after he aggravated a groin injury. Kerney had a forced fumble and a couple sacks before going down on the final play of the first half.

In addition to these new injuries, Seattle was without four other starters on Sunday. They have their bye next week and hopefully will have Sean Locklear, Rob Sims and Leroy Hill ready for action in their next game when they take on the Cowboys on Nov. 1 in Dallas.

“No, I’m not surprised,” said Mora. “Matt is a very tough man, physically and mentally.”

Before getting hurt, Hasselbeck had a strong start to the 2009 NFL season. In Week 1 against the St. Louis Rams, Hasselbeck passed for 279 yards and three touchdowns as the Seahawks won by a final score of 28-0.

If Hasselbeck can’t play, Seneca Wallace will once again start at quarterback against the Jacksonville Jaguars on Sunday. After their Week 1 win, the Seahawks have lost three in a row. Week 5 could be a pivotal week for the squad to prove they are good enough to make a run at the playoffs.

This signing is a bit of a surprise since the Seahawks had a trio of running backs that many thought would carry the load in Julius Jones, T.J. Duckett and Justin Forsett. The addition of James means that at least one of the three running backs will be traded or released.

The 31-year-old James has been a star running back since he first entered the league in the 1999 season with the Indianapolis Colts. Although he has slowed down in recent years, many scouts believe he may have another year of starting in his legs.

Will he become the Seahawks’ starting running back? Stay tuned.

2) Seattle Seahawks
Matt Hasselbeck isn’t getting any younger and Vick could take his time in getting ready to return to the field.

3) St. Louis Rams
The Rams seem to be going nowhere. Marc Bulger is seemingly always hurt and Vick would be able to add some excitement in St. Louis.

4) Dallas Cowboys
If there’s a big name available, the Cowboys have to be in the conversation. Vick could be a suitable insurance policy in case Tony Romo gets hurt or folds under pressure.

5) New England Patriots
Bill Belichick loves multi-purpose players. If Vick wants to return as a utility-type role, he could find room on the Patriots as a running back, wide receiver, returner and possible some snaps at QB.

Oh, and did you know that the kid with him is a leukemia patient from St. Jude’s? That’s just awesome. You can really tell that Curry’s first concern is providing for his family, and he credited his mom with giving him everything to make this career possible.

#4 2009 Draft Pick – Aaron Curry, OLB, Wake Forest

Let’s talk about his abilities though – he’s solid. I agree with what the experts have been saying – he may not be a play-maker who’s in the news all the time, but he’s going to fill holes. He’s going to creep in there and save plays that could be disasters otherwise. He’s going to be a lifer in the NFL, I think.

Here are other draft picks:

1. Matthew Stafford, Quarterback, Georgia to the Detroit Lions

2. Jason Smith, Offensive Tackle, Baylor to the St. Louis Rams

3. Tyson Jackson, Defensive Tackle, LSU to the Kansas City Chiefs

The contract for Weaver is reportedly a one-year deal worth as much as $2.5 million. Approximately $750,00 of the contract is based on performance incentives.

The 26-year-old not only a capable blocker, he’s able to gain yardage on the ground and catch the ball out of the backfield. In his career, he has 356 yards on 80 carries for a 4.5 average. He also has 60 receptions for 547 yards.

Undrafted out of Carson-Newman, the 6-foot, 242 pound bowling ball is surprisingly quick for his size and his shiftiness is underrated. With the Eagles, there’s a chance for Weaver to get carries to help take pressure off of Brian Westbrook. Though Philadelphia hasn’t used the fullback position much in recent years, the addition of Weaver could call for a change in philosophy.

Hasselbeck was a Boston College player, originally drafted during the 6th round by the Green Bay Packers. BC was in a bit of a rebuilding stage at this time, with new coach Tom O’Brien at the helm. Hasselbeck’s junior and senior year, the team ended with losing records of 4-7, and Hasselbeck didn’t play much, as other quarterbacks took their places on the field. You know what, Hasselbeck? I’m sorry I brought up this time in your life. It won’t happen again…
