I found this image via Flickr, a bookshelf full of Windows Vista sidebar gadget books. It’s in Spanish. It’s been a while since I saw a shelf of books in Vista as most of my readings are in electronic format.

Vista Sidebar in next Preview

The Windows Vista Sidebar, which we saw here, is a small panel at the side of the monitor that can be used to view photo slide shows, RSS (Really Simple Syndication) feeds and other small programs. Video: Bill Gates at the CES

Bill had a keynote speach at the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in Las Vegas. You should check out the video because there is some really neat stuff he’s talking about. Bill shows how the modern office will look like (big screen with three desktops), touchscreens, the connection with your mobile, real-time news, etc. Windows Vista was shown with all new features like task switching, the Aero Glass interface, the sidebar with gadgets, IE7 (thumbnailed tabs and parental controls).

Running Vista Sidebar in XP

As we reported earlier, the Windows Vista Sidebar feature is to be made available at some stage to users of Windows XP.
Tech-Recipes has all the unofficial ingredients for running the Sidebar on XP, including a link for downloading the files. Caution is recommended as all of this software is in early beta.

Microsoft Gadgets in Vista sidebar

At last week’s PDC (Professional Developers Conference) in LA, a lot was said about Microsoft “Gadgets”, or mini-applications, particularly in regard to the reinstated Sidebar feature of Windows Vista. The screenshot shows what some of them look like. In Vista they can be moved around the screen and left anywhere that takes your fancy.
