Jim Beam’s Video Contest

Unlike many other spirits, Jim Beam hasn’t done any television advertising in several years. Now, they’re launching the first campaign in a while with a spot called “The Girlfriend”.
This aired on SportsCenter and NBA games on TNT, and now, Jim Beam has launched a video contest with a $25K first prize!
Create your own parody commercial like The Girlfriend, or your own testimonial “girlfriend” or “boyfriend” story, and you could get a piece of that pie … or, a sip of that drink if you prefer.
There’s a couple of sample spoofs and a couple of stories as well that give you …read more
Review: Glace ‘Luxury’ Ice

Luxury Ice. Seriously. I’m not sure I get this entirely.
Glace claims to be the world’s first "luxury ice" but even after trying it, I can’t figure out what makes it luxurious.
Glace is a perfectly spherical, 2.5" …ball of ice. It’s made from purified water, which is somehow different from other ice cubes. I’ve read the product section of the website over and over again, and I still don’t get it.
I tried one of these "meticulously designed and differentiated drink-ice product" and was completely underwhelmed. Sure, I had ice in my drink. Yes, I managed to get it …read more
Party Survival Kit

January, for me, is typically a dry (well, as dry as it can be!) month, but I’ve come across something that will help anyone who is carrying New Year’s Eve into the New Year.
The Partier’s Survival Kit. This is a kit which has been designed by Minimus for people who are serious about their night on the town. Packed into a flashing, light up cocktail glass comes everything you’ll need to bounce back the next morning and not feel any worse for wear.
The kit contains a packet of “Chaser Freedom from Hangovers”, Alka Seltzer for the next morning, Advil …read more

Those who know me well, and who have known me for the past few years, know that this is not my “happiest time of the year” (for me, that’s summertime…. give me heat, give me sunshine!!)….*cough* sorry…. I got distracted. Right, where was I?
Oh yes… Christmas. Winter. Snow. Bleh. So, for me, staying warm, inside, with a good drink makes me happy. So, my 12 Drinks of Christmas (the 12 days being the ones that begin on Christmas night and end at Epiphany on January 5th)? Here it is….(recipes below)
On the first day of Christmas my true love gave to …read more
Election Suggestion

So, y’all in the US have an election coming up I think. I know that it hasn’t been that well publicized, and I suspect that the date isn’t really firm yet. But, speaking as a Canadian who just went through a rather random and kinda useless federal election, I think that this is a candidate you all should consider. Seriously. Mr. Morgan has got his priorities in order.
He’s got all of the major issues addressed:
THE ECONOMY: The Captain feels nothing keeps the party going like a well rested workforce, so he’s …read more
$6,200 Cocktail

Yes, you read that right.
There’s a new casino recently opened in Uncasville, CT, and to commemorate it, they’ve teamed up with, who else but Tiffany & Co. to offer a new cocktail called Windfall.
The drink itself sounds innocuous enough, even though it’s a pour worth $550. A mixture of Krug Grand Cuvee Brut Champagne, Richard Hennessy Cognac, Grand Marnier Cuvee du Cent Cinquantenaire 150, Chamboard Raspberry Liquour, and pomegranate juice. Sounds a little over the top, but ok so far.
The garnish is what gets ya. Raspberries and blackberries float on top of the drink, and then have been topped with …read more
Gmail Goggles

This has been floating about the interwebs for a while now, but it’s just too amusing to keep to myself. Google Labs has launched Mail Goggles.
We all send messages we shouldn’t send. We’ve all emailed an ex or told someone we liked them more than just a friend…. Gmail can’t always prevent you from sending messages you might later regret, but they CAN help you a little bit.
When you enable Mail Goggles, it will check that you’re really sure you want to send that late night Friday email. And what better way to check than by making you solve a …read more
Old Wive’s Tale: A Hot Toddy will cure a cold

I’m fighting a nasty cold at the moment, and as soon as people hear me speak, they figure it out pretty quickly and then tell me to go curl up and create myself one of many Old Wive’s Tales to cure the common cold.
So, what are these ‘cures’? They mostly centre around the Hot Toddy. There’s tons of different ways you can make a Hot Toddy, from everything to Whiskey, Rum or Gin. The prevailing theory is that a hot toddy’s mixture of piping hot water, rum, and lemon can provide a lot of relief. Alcohol has an anti-inflammatory …read more

Paris Hilton Makes Wine

Who knew? I found out at VinoCamp.
The drink is described as: "The perfect ’starter drink’ for your night or a special pleasure as a reward at the end of the day." Paris has launched a new "bubbly blonde" drink – which comes in original, passion fruit and strawberry.
Of course she has. She already has her own perfume, jewellery range, shoe collection, bag line and has released a pop album and starred in a bunch of movies.
Bleh. Of all the drinks in the world, I’m gonna go with “no” on this one. Thanks though.
