EA Cutting Maxis Jobs

It’s going to be a very dark month for some people at Maxis as EA announces that they are cutting back at the popular gaming studio.
I’m not sure how much of a surprise this announcement really is since back in 2008, it was announced that EA was already planning on cutting jobs since games like Need for Speed: Undercover, Mirror’s Edge and Rock Band 2 had been under preforming.
Then again, with The Sims franchise being the top selling franchise in history, you would think that Maxis would be cushioned from this downsizing.

I’m impressed with EA (Electronics Arts) Singapore as the company has done a great job in marketing The Sims 3 using the massively popular social networking site – Facebook.

First of all, EA Singapore uses Facebook advertisements to promote the pre-ordering and the launch party of The Sims 3 on 2nd June 2009. Google has finally decided that game themes deserve to grace our desktops and has added a new “Games” tab for when you’re looking for that perfect theme.Call of Duty:World at War and Street Fighter IV are in the three and four spots as far as “hotness” go and I have a feeling that more games will quickly rise to the top as more people realize that they can now add their favorite game as their theme.
Also offered are Sims 3, Zelda, World of Warcraft, and a cool “Game of the Day” theme.
