Slumdog Millionaire is out on DVD today and, if you haven’t seen it, you should pick up a copy. The movie took audiences and critics by storm and won eight Academy Awards (among others) including the coveted “Best Picture” prize. I think it deserves every bit of acclaim it has gotten.

The film follows the life of Jamal Malik (Dev Patel), an 18 year-old orphan from the slums of Mumbai who is a contestant on India’s most popular show, Who Wants to be a Millionare? He is just one question away from winning 20 million rupees when things go terribly wrong. He is suspected of cheating, is arrested in a brutal manner and is held for questioning. During this time, he explains, question by question, why he knew the answers. In doing this, he takes us on a journey through the highs and lows of his young life with his older brother, Salim (Madhur Mittal) and true love, Latika (Freida Pinto).

It’s gritty, raw and incredibly inspiring and the acting is phenomenal. This is a movie that you definitely want to see! Watch the trailer here:
