The 2014 Winter Games in Sochi, Russia (along the Black Sea) are just 1914 days away. Below are some scenes of the Olympic site beginning to take shape. It’s certainly a lovely place. It’ll be interesting to see how it develops.

Looking to Sochi 2014

After Vancouver in 2010, after London in 2012, the Olympics will be held in the Russian Black Sea resort town of Sochi. This lesser-known town of around 400,000 residents will be the first Russian town to host a Winter Olympic Games. Not historically known for their winter sports athletes, Russians are busy preparing for the Sochi Games–even six years in advance. The video below gives a good overview of the city and its potential winter Olympians and Paralympians. It’s a little long, but it’s well made and (I think) interesting.

12 September 2007 – The International Olympic Committee (IOC) today announced that IOC member Jean-Claude Killy, the legendary French Alpine skier and triple Olympic champion, has accepted the Chairmanship of the Coordination Commission for the Sochi 2014 Olympic Winter Games. The appointment was made by Jacques Rogge, President of the IOC.

Press Release | IOC Elects Sochi as the Host City of the 2014 Olympic Winter Games

4 July 2007 – The International Olympic Committee (IOC) today elected Sochi (Russian Federation) as the host city of the XXII Olympic Winter Games in 2014 during its 119th Session in Guatemala City. Sochi beat PyeongChang in the final round of voting by 51 votes to 47.
