I went to check and see what’s happening in Facebook just a few minutes ago and was welcomed with a "new, simplified home page" presented to me in my browser. Basics are still the same, but lots of stuff has moved around.
As you can see from the screen shot above; new notifications, requests and messages are now all grouped together by the apps that generated them.
Messages, your applications and a list of your online and available friends have shifted from the bottom-right-hand portion of the screen over to the far left in a sidebar type of layout design. The …read more
Foursquare Isn’t Competing With Brightkite

I’ve been playing with Foursquare lately since they added Indianapolis to their list of cities. I was waiting on it to come to the city and now it’s here. I’m not sure it’s really what I expected at all.
I’ve been using Brightkite for quite awhile and honestly I thought that Foursquare and Brightkite would be competitors, but they’re really not. People living in the cities of Marikina and Cainta and Pasig were held hostage by raging flash floods that had them moving to the roofs of their houses to seek safety.
In the midst of this disaster, citizens used social media networks such as Facebook, Twitter and the like to spread news, update …read more

I know I should, it’s got lots of handy features, but I just haven’t gotten used to using FriendFeed for anything. I know it consolidates and organizes much of the updates that I’m interested in across a variety of social networks. I’m just not using. Why not?
Maybe I just haven’t spent enough time really playing with it to figure out how it could really change the way I handle social media. I love using twhirl to update my twitter accounts, and I’ve got my FriendFeed account setup in twhirl, but I just don’t use it.
I like the grouping functionality that’s …read more

I read an article recently about how the use of social networks is really starting to impact people’s professional lives. There’s the challenge of your boss or employer in general being on the same network you are, whether it be twitter, Facebook, LinkedIn or a host of others. Most large companies are using online services to monitor and watch what’s being said about them and their brand. Most of us should assume that there are people listening, regardless of whether we think they care of not.
Spending time in the recruiting business and as a manage for other offices, reviewing applications …read more
