Christmas tree beer

For some reason I’ve stumbled across a few references to spruce beer of late and, curious, I decided we all needed to know more. Apparently there are two types of spruce beer, one is beer flavored with spruce and the other a fairly noxious soda along the lines of root beer and birch beer.
We’ll stick to alcoholic versions. As the story goes, spruce beer was popular in colonial times due to a shortage of other flavoring ingredients, and at least one of the references I saw was to a spruce beer brewed by George Washington. Spruce beer is made by …read more
