Paging all point guards

Watching Tuesday’s Michigan State @ Michigan affair was pure poetry in the read it and then forget it kind of sense.
Beilein put a penetrating point guard into the game,
can it be too much to ask
no more former walk-ons making you lame
there’s just but one guy up to the task,
But he has now fallen to third in line,
why all of the Wolvie fans wonder
could it be he needs to refine
or is this just solely Beilein’s blunder
Kelvin Grady, sophomore point guard for the Wolverines, has apparently fallen out of favor with Coach Beilein. It has gotten to the point where Grady, …read more

Spartans not looking so mighty

UNC beat the Michigan State Spartans down by 35 on Wednesday.
Not only did lightning quick (tell that to Ty Lawson) sophomore guard Kalin Lucas struggle, virtually no points came from Michigan State’s frontline, and to make matters worse, the Ford Field crowd had the intensity of a mid-August Royals crowd at Kauffman Stadium.
Spartans Weblog author kj was actually at the drubbing,
…the environment at Ford Field didn’t help. The sparse crowd (relative to the size of the arena) never gave the team any kind of emotional lift. At one point in the second half, the crowd gave a Bronx …read more

Delvon Roe dunk!

Delvon, if the hoopla is true, will be a special, special player.

Usually Izzo recruits pan out.
Look for this kid to be fantastic come the Big Ten slate.

Prediction one, actually there’s two in here

It’s never too early to start pontificating about the upcoming season.
My crystal ball I dust off every July or August is acting abnormally insane, as, for the very first time, the Northwestern Wildcats have scratched their way to the front of my lopsided prediction formation… via the crystal ball.
I need to listen to the ball.
You can’t not listen to the ball.
It’s like the Tommyknockers.
Apparently Kevin Coble and his band of international scholars, not so much ballers, are going to be getting some help of the vertically gifted variety this next season. Four 6’8 or taller players are …read more

Sweet 16 – Day 2 notes

The Friday night games are winding down, and here are my thoughts on today’s action:
- Even though the game is far from over, I want to extend my congratulations to the Michigan State Spartans for laying the biggest egg of the tournament thus far. Extremely disappointing effort by the Spartans.
- Very convincing win by Texas over a pretty good Stanford team. DJ Augustin is as good as advertised.
- Note to the rest of the teams in the tournament – Don’t let Stephen Curry touch the ball. Period. End of story. Deny him the ball constantly or he will destroy you.

Games to watch this week – February 28th

The clock is ticking…
March Madness is fast approaching.
Every conference game matters. One big win could secure your team a birth in the NCAA tournament. One huge loss could dash your team’s hopes to play in the post-season.
Here are some of the biggest games to watch this week:

Tonight: #15 Michigan State at #9 Wisconsin – the Badgers are tied for first place in the Big Ten with Indiana and Purdue, while the Spartans are trying to play catch-up. Wisconsin needs to win this game to put the pressure on the Boilermakers and Hoosiers.
Saturday March 1st – Kansas State at #7 Kansas …read more

Games to watch this week – February 14th

As we get closer and closer to March madness, the conference battles are heating up. Here are some prime college basketball contests to watch this weekend:
Saturday February 16:
#7 Stanford at Arizona – the Wildcats are on a roll at home right now, as they have defeated Washington State, Washington and USC in their last three home games. Arizona played the Cardinal very tight in their last meeting on January 17th at Stanford, losing 56-52. Stanford needs to be on serious upset alert.
#9 Michigan State at #12 Indiana – the Hoosiers will be playing this game under a cloud …read more
