It’s going to be a very dark month for some people at Maxis as EA announces that they are cutting back at the popular gaming studio.

I’m not sure how much of a surprise this announcement really is since back in 2008, it was announced that EA was already planning on cutting jobs since games like Need for Speed: Undercover, Mirror’s Edge and Rock Band 2 had been under preforming.

Then again, with The Sims franchise being the top selling franchise in history, you would think that Maxis would be cushioned from this downsizing.

It’s sad but inevitable these days.

Hopefully the people who have lost their jobs or who are losing their jobs will find jobs at other studios.

EA Cutting Maxis Jobs

The steps are simple:

Download the Creature Creator – free!

Create a creature and make him dance – make sure you record it

Upload creature to YouTube and register the video

Pretty cut and dry but you might as well head on over to the YouTube page to read everything for yourself.  Also, click here for the “official” rules.

The prize is a trip to the Smithsonian Museum and registration ends on August 1st so hurry up.

The F*ck Slug…You’ve Been Warned

When you release a free program that allows everyone and their brother [or sister] to create a creature and then upload it to the internet and YouTube you’re bound to have a few people [or a bunch] who insist upon adding certain “parts” to their creatures.

EA is apparently all up in boobs arms about the “misuse” of their creator and I’m really not sure why EA is so surprised. Once the complete Creator comes out with the game, there’s no telling what kinds of creatures are created with interestingly placed parts.

After the entire game is released, things will calm down and life will return to normal pre-sporn wonderfulness.

EA, take a deep cleansing breath.  Everything will be just fine.

Best Spore Creature EVA!

I was asked to play with the new Creature Creator for Spore and enter into a contest to win $15,000 for my favorite charity.

The way the whole deal works is you go to SporeVote.com and view everyone’s creatures; there’s a short bio of everyone and a video of their creation.

Then, you vote on which creature you like best.

Simple as that.

I’m not sure when Avery will be up on the site but hopefully it won’t be too long.

You can download the Creature Creator on the 17th though there are “leaked” copies out there if you do some looking around.
