“Star Trek” on DVD and Blu-ray

The newest instalment of Star Trek was released on DVD and Blu-ray this week and I immediately picked up a copy.  Being a huge Trekkie, I was really worried when they decided to go back and start the series from before Kirk was the captain of the Starship Enterprise. I was so pleasantly surprised by what J.J. Abrams did with the characters and storyline.

Not everyone in my life shares my passion for Star Trek so I thought it was great that Abrams really found a balance between giving fans the sci-fi flick they needed while making it also an action-packed …read more

“Star Trek” Sequel to Be Released in 2012

Though fans originally were anticipating what was supposed to be a summer of 2011 release date for the Star Trek sequel, plans have now been changed. Producer of the films, J. J. Abrams told SCI FI Wire that we should now be expecting the film to be released in 2012.
He said that the extra time would be beneficial,”You use what you’ve got. The more time you have, the more time you have to use to hopefully make it a better movie.
Co-producer and writer, Damon Lindelof said, “Yeah, I think that we would be hard pressed to get it on screens …read more

Own Gene Roddenberry’s Mac

If you’re a technology lover, the likelihood that you’re also a fan of Star Trek and Gene Roddenberry is perhaps a safe bet. The next question is whether or not you’re a PC fan or a Mac fan. For those that are the latter, you may be interested in this little offer.

Pre-order “Star Trek”

Did you love Star Trek as much as I did?  If so, you might be interested in pre-ordering a copy of the film, which comes out on Blu-ray and DVD on November 17, 2009.
I know that some die-heard Trekkies criticized the movie for not being as Sci-Fi as they might have liked but I believe that the majority of people felt the way that I did – this newest Trek is perfect for people who love the series as well as those who find the older movies a little too nerdy.

The film tells the story of how James T. Kirk …read more

Now in Theaters: “Star Trek”

Fans have already been treated to the first showings of Star Trek.  The eleventh film in the series is now playing and I’m already hearing that it was amazing.  Have you seen it or are you planning to?  Let me know what you thought of it!

In this film, J.J. Abrams takes the story of the most famous crew back to before their days on the U.S.S. Enterprise.  With an all-new cast, we get to see how Captain Kirk. Spock, Uhura, Bones, Chekov, Scotty and Sulu first meet and I think, for the most part, the new actors were fairly well …read more

Meet Antonio Elias of the New “Star Trek”

Antonio Elias will be making his feature film debut tomorrow in Paramount Picture’s Star Trek.  It’s a great way to break onto the movie scene because this film is going to be seen by so many people from all walks of life (from devoted Trekkies to the average movie-goer).
In the film, Antonio takes on the role of Officer Pitts, the communications officer of the U.S.S. Kelvin. Antonio says, "playing Officer Pitts was definitely a cool thing, he is responsible for a lot – keeping the captain informed on everything that is going on, no matter how good or how …read more

New International Star Trek Posters

A new batch of posters for the upcoming Star Trek film have surfaced and they haven’t done much to quell my worries about the film.  Still it’s nice to see them and get an idea of how the movie is being marketed around the world.   I can’t say that I know which country each of these is associated with so it’s hard for me to understand the logic (or lack thereof – sorry Spock!).  I get the ones that feature Captain Kirk (Chris Pine) and Spock (Zachary Quinto) but I don’t get having Lt. Uhura as the third largest figure …read more

Re:Retro viewer: That’s not Star Trek!

And, yes, I’ll be the first to admit that the video I posted with the article, Woot! Star Trek: The Motion Picture for the Vectrex isn’t, well, Star Trek: The Motion Picture for the Vectrex Arcade System. It’s actually a messed up version of Scramble.
Here’s a video of Scramble that YouTube user tr0d took from the series How to Beat Home Video Games:

Okay. Now that the mix up has been cleared, I’d like to thank Chris Herr for the heads up. Here’s a video of the real Star Trek: The Motion Picture for the Vectrex:

Woot! Star Trek: The Motion Picture for the Vectrex

Being a Trekkie, or Trekker, as my good friend Filemon is wont to point out, anything that has something to do with Star Trek piques my interest. Now couple this interest with video games, then you’ve got an explosive combination.
Speaking of explosive, this video I found on YouTube totally blew me away:

As you may have already surmised from the title, the video features the classic game Star Trek: The Motion Picture for the Vectrex.
The Vectrex? Oh, yeah, you might not have heard of this 80s console. It’s an 8-bit video game console developed by Smith Engineering and distributed by General …read more
