Helfer, best known for her role as Number Six in Battlestar Galactica, is no voice-acting novice. You can also catch her in Halo: ODST and Spiderman: Web of Shadows. In terms of StarCraft II, Helfer has stated that she’s excited about exploring the duality of Sarah Kerrigan. At lat year’s BlizzCon, Blizzard’s Chris Metzen stated that SCII might touch on the question of Kerrigan’s humanity, and whether the character has any shot at redemption. It sounds like Helfer is equally interested in taking on Kerrigan’s complexity.

Regarding the character, Helfer stated:

“It’s fun to try and find the small differences, like how do you bring Sarah Kerrigan into the Queen of Blades, without completely changing it. — Sarah is more innocent, and the Queen of Blades is just fun.”

“You get to be that evil side. I think I’m a fairly nice person, but I do a pretty good job of bringing out evilness. It saves on therapy bills. You get to go to work and be mean. Sarah and the Queen of Blades stem from the same person. They are the same person.”

Excitement for StarCraft II continues to grow as fans speculate on the 2010 release date.

Tricia Helfer to Voice StarCraft II’s Sarah Kerrigan

The official word from Blizzard PR’s team member, Bob Colayco is as follows:

“We don’t currently plan to support LAN play with StarCraft II, as we are building Battle.net to be the ideal destination for multiplayer gaming with StarCraft II and future Blizzard Entertainment games. While this was a difficult decision for us, we felt that moving away from LAN play and directing players to our upgraded Battle.net service was the best option to ensure a quality multiplayer experience with StarCraft II and safeguard against piracy.

Several Battle.net features like advanced communication options, achievements, stat-tracking, and more, require players to be connected to the service, so we’re encouraging everyone to use Battle.net as much as possible to get the most out of StarCraft II. We’re looking forward to sharing more details about Battle.net and online functionality for StarCraft II in the near future.”

Undoubtedly, this will likely cause some bitterness and resentment among gamers, but I’m somewhat certain it won’t hurt SCII’s sales any when the game finally comes out. Of course, there’s always Diablo III – which will also lack LAN support.
