Who’s Running In Your District?
It’s easy to forget that there’s anyone running for office this year besides Barack Obama and John McCain. I received a sample ballot for my county this week and was almost shocked to see other names on the paper.
At least at my polls, I’ll be voting on a Congressional Representative, three judges, three school board members and two constitutional amendment — and I know that in many states, there’s plenty more on the ballot. House Lifts Offshore Drilling Ban
Yesterday, the House of Representatives voted to lift the federal moratorium that has prevented offshore drilling on most of the U.S. coastline for the past three decades. What about local races?
On the national level, the various candidates are spending this time to get back into the groove of campaigning after the conventions. Are there any state races that are particularly heavy?
We’d love it you would add the website for the candidate you’re talking about when you comment — we’re hoping to put together a list of particularly interesting candidates that we’ll post here on One Vote Matters.
The race for my congressional district (Maryland’s 7th) isn’t …read more
Keep An Eye on the Alaskan Senate Race
Last month, Senator Ted Stevens of Alaska was indicted on charges of corruption. In the midst of fighting those charges, Stevens is running for his seventh Senate term.
He rolled out his first ad this week — which I keep replaying just to hear the last line: “Without Ted, we’re toast.”
Update: Arkansas Democratic Chairman Killed
Bill Gwatney, the chairman of the Arkansas Democratic Party, died at 3:59 this afternoon. A gunman entered his office this morning and shot him several times.
