One of the questions Lazy Man and Money asked his readers recently is whether or not they used a “staycation” to aid them in saving money on gas. This reminded of my post last Friday about how my driving habits have changed lately. Because we did, indeed, do the “staycation” thing.
Instead of our yearly trip to a national park (last year we did Yellowstone, and we’ve done Grand Canyon, Zion and Bryce Canyon in the past), we stuck close to home. This year, we did a staycation." align="left" height="113" hspace="5" vspace="5" width="150" />One of the questions Lazy Man and Money asked his readers recently is whether or not they used a “staycation” to aid them in saving money on gas.

I mean, it’s expensive to drive that far. Luckily for us, we live in the mountains of Utah, and a “staycation” to Bear Lake (or even to Salt Lake City) is only an hour away.

Here are some ways you enjoy yourself with a “staycation,” while still saving money on gas:

Go on a picnic. Pack a lunch and go to the local park.

Public pool.

Museums, special exhibits and other local attractions (like the zoo).

Amusement activities (we have a small mini golf and go-cart center).

Check the local paper for activities. Most Friday papers offer weekend and upcoming events. Attend those.

Find something to do within a one to two hour drive. Caves, lakes, camping or another town (with different attractions) make good destinations. And they’re close enough that you don’t have to spend money on a hotel!

What are some ideas you have for a “staycation”?

The business channel is having another Friday Fun Post. This week, Taxgirl inspired us to take a look at our driving habits — how they’ve changed from last year.
On average, I drive about 50 miles a week. I’m driving more than last year because we recently bought a house and moved. We now live more than a mile from the nearest bus stop — which won’t be so bad now that the weather is nicer — and town is further away. So we do more driving than when we lived close to everything (but rented) and didn’t have to rely [...]
Post from: EveryJoe

This week, Taxgirl inspired us to take a look at our driving habits — how they’ve changed from last year.

On average, I drive about 50 miles a week. I’m driving more than last year because we recently bought a house and moved. We now live more than a mile from the nearest bus stop — which won’t be so bad now that the weather is nicer — and town is further away. So we do more driving than when we lived close to everything (but rented) and didn’t have to rely on the car as much. Heck, I used to be able to walk to the Dr.’s office.

This whole having to drive more is inconvenient, since gas prices are going up with no end in sight. But we are cutting back on the vacations. Last year we went to Yellowstone National Park (my husband had never been) and visited my parents more frequently. Now we’re sticking closer to home (having a “staycation” this year) and cutting trips to my parents’ house by a third.
