Stricker Takes Deutsche Bank Championship

After narrowly missing a chance to force a playoff last week at The Barclays, Steve Stricker wasn’t about to blow it again.  His back to back birdies on the final two holes gave him a one stroke victory over Scott Verplank and Jason Dufner, and vaulted him past Tiger Woods into the FedEx Cup lead by 909 points.  Stricker drained a 15-foot birdie on No. 17, then followed that with a sweet chip on No. 18 that left him a simple tap-in for birdie, and the victory. With the win, his third of the season, Stricker finds himself parked at …read more

Three Tied for Lead at TPC Boston

If you’ve got the time tomorrow, might I suggest you sit down and watch the final round of the Deutsche Bank Championship, because it’s going to be a good one, even without Tiger Woods in the hunt.  Three players ended up tied for the lead after Sunday’s round, thanks to Steve Stricker’s eagle on the 18th for a 6-under 65.  He is tied with Sean O’Hair and Retief Goosen at 13-under for the tournament.  Knocking on their backdoor at 12-under is Padraig Harrington, a local favorite with Boston’s large Irish population, Scott Verplank and Kevin Na.
It’s hard to say who …read more

Stricker Hangs On at John Deere Classic

Sitting three strokes back of leader Darron Stiles, with two rounds of golf crammed into one long day obviously didn’t phase Steve Stricker one bit, as he followed up a course record 61 on Saturday with a third round 68, followed immediately by an impressive final round 64 to finish at 20-under for the John Deere Classic.  This was the Wisconsin native’s second victory of the season, but more importantly, the win gives him some much needed momentum heading into the British Open.
It took Stricker until the 6th hole of the final round to find himself tied for the lead …read more

Stricker Makes Move at John Deere Classic

The weather was a bit more cooperative today than yesterday, as the John Deere Classic resumed Saturday with the golfers completing second round action, and a 36 hole Sunday to look forward to.  Darron Stiles and Lee Janzen led the tournament after Thursday’s opening round, but only Stiles still finds himself atop the leaderboard after a lovely 6-under today left him 13-under for the tourney.  But the big story of the day was Steve Stricker, who finds himself three strokes back of Stiles at 10-under after two rounds.  Stricker finds himself all alone in second place thanks to a course …read more

Stricker Sets Record at Colonial

Steve Stricker shot his second straight 63 on Friday. His 14-under 126 total set a new record for 36 holes, as well as for any consecutive rounds at the Crowne Plaza Invitational at the Colonial Country Club.
Even with his record setting pace, it was just enough to keep him atop the leaderboard. Three golfers – Tim Clark, Sean O’Hair and Vijay Singh – shot 64 on Friday. Clark is currently -13, one stroke off the lead with Singh (-12) and O’Hair (-11) following. The conditions were ideal on Friday with soft greens and a light wind.

Stricker is happy about the …read more
