Dow Jones Dips Below 7,000

In 1997, the Dow Jones industrial average was below 7,000. Twelve years later, the Dow is back below 7,000 for the first time. With confidence in the stock market slipping by the day, it was little surprise that Monday brought another day of massive selling.
By the time the carnage was totaled, the Dow Jones had finished the day at 6,763. Coming into the day, it was slightly over 7,000.
The losses weren’t only in one segment of the stock market. In fact, each of the 30 stocks that make up the Dow saw their prices go down on the day.
