Not only is this a extremely well built Hybrid, the Escape is also a light truck that is built Ford Tough. The Escape Hybrid comes with the optional FWD or 4WD system with smart technology. This means that the Transmission automatically adjusts from front to 4WD when the occasion is required. This means that you can be confident no matter where you need to go.

The engine on the Escape Hybrid is a light 2.5L Atkinson-cycle I-4 engine that produces 153-hp. The electric motor is a powerful Permanent Magnet AC synchronous power-plant that produces 94-hp. This produces adequate power for the Escape in speeds from 0-44mph at which time the gas powered engine takes over. Having the engine shut off at non-efficient slow speeds the Escape can crawl through traffic or wait in the drive through with the engine completely shut off. There have been complaints however from car reviewers that the switch from electric to gas is not a smooth transition. This might alarm some people however it’s hard to complain when the Escape Hybrid can get you 32mpg in the city and 35mpg on the highway. These number can even be lowered further by learning simple efficient-driving techniques.

To ensure that the Escape Hybrid is the most ‘green’ car on the planet Ford has gone through the trouble of making sure that most of their Escapes are made from recycled materials that can be further recycled when the car ends up in the scrap-yard. The Escape also has bio-degradable chairs and upolstry. And to make sure that all care was added for the environment, Ford is paying the full carbon credits needed to produce their Escape Hybrid’s. This means that for every pound of carbon monoxide produced to make the car Ford pays the equivalent to further technology that will help reduce it.

The 2010 Ford Escape Hybrid is a little pricey with a $31,000 starting price. Those numbers can be be slashed further if you take advantage of your local government’s Tax credit advantages.

Larger than the original, the Explorer SUT is designed to take on more passengers, more equipment and more fun. The design is all too similar to a truck and looks as if a F-150 had its back chopped off. Despite the look the Explorer SUT is convenient and practical for towing and off-road use.

The Explorer SUT comes in either a rear wheel or four wheel drive system. The four wheel drive option is obviously better suited for off-road use or just in case emergency situations. The Explorer SUT comes with the powerful 4.0L V6 that is all power, however if you are looking at some serious towing capabilities be sure to check out the 4.6L V8 that can carry up to 7,000 lbs on its back.

The Escalade typically has the largest engine in the luxury SUV class, the hybrid is no exception. Its 6.0L V8 is a monster though it only delivers 332-hp. However, its low end torque make hauling heavy recreations an easy task. The real genius for the Escalade Hybrid is its 2-mode, the worlds first ever of its kind. The large engine is aided by the electric motor or the motor is used independently at low speeds. The regenerative braking make charging the battery independent of any engine charge or plug in requirements. A typical Escalade will get 12mpg in the city and 19mpg on the highway. Compare that to the Escalade Hybrid that will deliver 20mpg in the city and 23mpg on the highway. A huge difference for a large SUV but not all that protective on the environment. Nice attempt though.

2010 Lincoln Navigator

The Lincoln Navigator was the original Luxury SUV on the market but it’s fame was quickly shortened when the Escalade came out with a bolder look. Looking at the Navigator you can’t help but notice the large front grill. Made to look more like a Lincoln from the 60’s, the grill gives the Navigator an impressive retro look.

Backed by a powerful 310-hp 5.5L SOHC V8, the Lincoln is a capable class 4 towing monster. Perfect for towing that boat to the lake. It also comes with a THX appproved sound system and GPS navigator. Getting in and out of the Navigator is a simple task thanks to the standard retracting step that lets down everytime the door is opened.

The Lincoln Navigator also sell at a lesser cost than the Escalade. At $47,000 to start you might be a new convert to the Lincoln. Fuel economy isn’t the best on this beast of a SUV – 13mpg in the city and 18mpg on the highway. But if you can afford the car, you can afford the gas.

Not exactly made for soccer mom’s, the MDX is more of a soccer dad’s car or anyone who would appreciate it’s 300 hp, 3.7L Vtec V6 engine. Though powerful, the Vtech V6 has a surprisingly smothe appearance. The MDX takes corners like a dream and can handle highway speeds in comfort.

The MDX is also a cut above in the technology department, featuring the Super Handling All-Wheel Drive (SH-AWD) and AcuraLink – Real-Time Traffic. The SH-AWD function basically means that the MDX is a AWD vehicle except that it is more advanced than that. It makes driving in any road condition a breeze. The SH-AWD takes inputs from many different sources and transfers speed to different wheels when needed. So like taking a curve at high speeds will seem easier as the car maintains the perfect balance.

Getting into one of these cars doesn’t come free though. The MDX has a starting price of over $40,000 and that’s not including all of the trims anyone would want to have. Expect to pay in the mid $50,000. This also may not be the time to be buying a Luxury SUV. SUV sales have been on the decline as people are looking for a more economical fuel drive.
