The 50th time proved to be the charm for Patrick, who nabbed the Indy Japan 300 victory at Twin Ring Motegi on Saturday. The win marks an IRL first not just for Danica Patrick but also for female drivers in the league.

So it’s official, people. History has been made. The video of Danica’s victory (3m, 11s)  is in Japanese (except for the “Danica Patrick” parts) and thus has an Iron Chef feel to it, all of which makes it more fun to watch. 

As faithful reader Pat, who gave us the heads-up on this story, observed . . . guess the new IRL weight rule didn’t matter after all.

But man does not live by sultry, glossy photos alone. There are things like the economy to worry about, right? Well, it’s a good thing we have financial bloggers to reconcile the two.

Huh?

A handful of finance professionals investigated the burning question, What does SI’s Swimsuit Issue mean for the S & P 500? (Admit it, you were wondering the same thing but were too shy to ask.) After some number-crunching involving 30 years of economic data and cover models’ countries of origin, the too-much-time-on-their-hands finance fellas figured it all out: Years with American cover models also had a much higher S & P gain.

So there you have it. All we need to jump start the economy are swimsuit models!

And somewhere, a Presidential hopeful orders a campaign manager to investigate the phenomenon in more detail . . .
