Yahoo, what the Hell are you doing? Your video search service faces competition from Google Video Sitemaps. Your Flickr-based YouTube competitor is still months away. Your live video service had a disastrous launch. Your ad network still can&#8217;t monetize the world&#8217;s text content, much less its video content.
So what do you do to compete inside online video as a portal? You produce an online video show about finance. Stupid, stupid, stupid. Your mission is to connect people with their passions, not to editorialize on their passions. Just because CBS bought Wallstrip doesn&#8217;t mean Yahoo needs a finance show too.

<p>If you want to serve as a portal, then <strong>be a goddamn portal.</strong> Give people better ways to search, share, and monetize <strong>their</strong> videos. Leave content creation to the content creators. That&#8217;s what Google does, and that&#8217;s why they&#8217;re kicking your asses. It&#8217;s <a href="http://online.wsj.com/public/article/SB116379821933826657-0mbjXoHnQwDMFH_PVeb_jqe3Chk_20061125.html" target="_blank">peanut butter</a> all over again.</p>
