Kenny Perry Unceremoniously Drops Caddie

Like Neil Sedaka used to say, “Breaking Up is Hard to Do.” Unless you’re Kenny Perry, who, in a somewhat surprising move, dropped longtime caddie Fred Sanders, without actually telling him. According to Sanders, the news of his firing came from Perry’s agent, and not from Perry himself. Even stranger is that Perry had Sanders on his bag throughout The Barclays, never hinting that the tournament would be Sanders last as Perry’s caddie.
Sanders also revealed that Perry’s son Justin, who carried his father’s bag for the Open Championship at Turnberry, will caddie for Perry for the final three FedEx Cup …read more
Furyk Gaffe Costs Him $130k at The Barclays

From time to time everyone makes mistakes. Happens to the best of us. Hopefully our mistakes don’t end up costing us $131,250 like they did Jim Furyk. As a rule, golfers are allowed 14 clubs in their bag during tournament play, a rule that Furyk and his caddy Fluff Cowan seemed to have forgotten at The Barclays. The club in question was a 60-degree wedge with extra bounce, a club he thought might be needed, but chose instead to go with his usual low bounce wedge. Because of his bag’s rain hood, both he and Cowan forgot to remove the …read more

The ending of The Barclays, the first of the FedEx Cup playoff events, literally came right down to the wire. It was setting up to be a 5-way playoff between Ernie Els, Steve Stricker, Padraig Harrington, Tiger Woods and Heath Slocum, that is until Slocum’s final shot of the day, a 20-foot par putt that fell true, giving the 35-year-old the improbable victory. With the win Slocum pockets a handsome $1.35 million winner’s check, and also assures him of a spot in the Tour Championship, and a chance at the $10 million dollar bonus.
Tiger Woods had a chance at to …read more
Marino, Goydos Share Lead at The Barclays

It may have taken awhile, but Steve Marino finally made his move at The Barclays on Saturday, reeling off three straight birdies late in the third round to catch leader Paul Goydos. Both men posted matching 3-under 68’s to lead the pack at 9-under. If Marino can pull it out, it would be his first victory on the PGA tour.
While Marino was making his move into the lead late, Goydos did the opposite, draining his three straight birdies early in the round. Second round leader Webb Simpson shot a 1-over 72 to lose ground on the leaders, and now finds …read more
Simpson Leads Halfway Point at The Barclays

If you’re like me, then you too were probably googling Webb Simpson after the finish of today’s second round at The Barclays. All I can tell you is that he’s leading this tournament at 8-under after an impressive 68 at the Liberty National Golf Club, he’s a rookie, and his putter is on fire. Not literally mind you, but he’s only needed 24 putts per round for these first two rounds. It doesn’t matter if your name is Webb, or Tiger, or Phil, that is remarkable. If he can keep up this outstanding play through the weekend, Simpson may become …read more
Garcia, Goydos and Marino Lead The Barclays

Hopefully for Sergio Garcia, his season of up and downs is back on it’s way up after jumping out to an early lead at The Barclays. The 29-year-old Spaniard’s season started well with a couple of top ten finishes on the European tour, but his play dropped off after his high-profile break-up with Greg Norman’s daughter Morgan. But a top ten finish at the U.S. Open, a fourth place finish at last week’s tourney stop in Greensboro, North Carolina, and a 6-under 65 opening round at this weeks tournament, The Barclays, is a good indication that Garcia has finally returned …read more
Tiger to Play First FedEx Playoff Event

With the heartbreaking loss in the PGA Championship still fresh in his mind, Tiger Woods today committed to playing next week at The Barclays, the first of the four playoff events for the FedEx Cup. Woods has not played The Barclays since 2003, when the tournament was named the Buick Classic and held in June. He has also not played in the event since Barclays became the title sponsor, back in 2005.
Tiger is a lock for the number one seeding heading into the four event playoff for the FedEx Cup. This year a new points system is in place, whereby …read more
