Lower Ticket Prices – A Sign of the Times

It’s a sign of the times when ticket prices for college football games are actually going down, but that’s exactly what’s happening in some places – and for some schools, it isn’t a moment too soon. Michigan and Michigan State both announced slight decreases in ticket prices, which is good news considering that this state is leading the pack in unemployment.
For the record, Ohio State is also lowering their ticket prices, and although I haven’t heard anything official, I’m sure there are other schools lowering prices as well.

Tennesse Charges for Football Tickets

Is it ironic that this news story is about money and the Volunteers? No? Just checking.
Anyway, Tennessee has announced that students will no long be admitted free to their football games. From now on, students have to purchase tickets for $15 each or $90 for the entire season. Since the 14,000 student seats are expected to sell out, that means an addition $1.6 million for the athletic department this year.
Tennessee was in the minority – most schools charge for their tickets. This brings around an interesting question: Is it right to charge students to see their football teams play?
