Sting

Sting recently told the UK Sun (Not the most reliable magazine for news) that he has plans on retiring sometime soon.

"I can not go on much longer." "I don’t want to embarrass myself, embarrass  Spike or embarrass TNA. We all know it’s a wave coming in to shore. I don;t know when exactly it’s going to hit, but it’s gonna hit.

"I thought probably this year. Actually it’s over the last couple of years it seems the thought has been in-and-out, in-and-out, in-and-out these thoughts of retirement and everything else but under the circumstances I think that I want to stick it out for one last – and this is the last – hurrah. I don’t know when it will end for sure, but as long as I stay healthy into 2009. But how far into 2009 I don’t know."

So why have we never seen sting in the WWE? Good question.

There was always something in me that thought that Vince McMahon wanted me more to undermine WCW than he wanted me as a talent. I just always believed that.

I saw a lot of guys from WCW that went to WWE and that happened. Anyone who made it to a higher level within WCW and then tried to jump over – it just didn’t work.

The other thing was that WCW ended up giving me what I wanted in my contract.

Why Hasn’t Sting Ever Tried Going To WWE

I’ve never attended a live Pro-Wrestling event. I would prefer to see it from the comfort of my own home and here is a couple of reasons why.

1. The first reason is that I like the fact that you can see everything very well at home instead of getting stuck in some nosebleed seat. I don’t care how big the show screen is, everything is much more clear at home and close up.
2. Other fans and their stupid signs. Sometimes the signs can be funny and entertaining. But if I’m sitting in the stands of worse, on floor seats and there is some fool in front of me with a signs that 4 feet wide I’m going to be upset. Not to mention that I don’t like stupid people and when you get that many people in one place, you’re bound to have at least one very close to you.

To reiterate the second one, Jason Powell over at Prowrestling.net wrote about how the WWE is going overboard when security removing fan’s signs and fans for "sign violations". The signs said stuff like "Urine Sample, Please" when Batista came out (confiscated), "Cup check that chick" for Beth Phoenix (confiscated), and lastly before being asked to leave the building "Butt Clown", a PG rated version of Chris Jericho’s "Ass-Clown" line (Confiscated and then asked to leave the premises). The local police even took the fan’s information and told them not to return. You can read about it here.

Maybe they went overboard by making the fan’s leave and perhaps they should have checked all the fans sings when they took the first one. Honestly though I think signs are stupid. Why? Refer back to reason #2. It started off a long time ago with a few signs here and there. Suddenly every fan thought it was some sort of obligation to bring a big-ass sign that says something stupid like "I love Nachos", "Marry me, Tori" or "I want the Big Show’s Baby". I know it’s nothing new but it’s gone way over the top in the last few years. Signs are plaguing many other pro-sports and even The Today Show on NBC the same way. Poor Al Roker has to weed his way around people in NYC with people holding signs that say where they’re from or "I stood in line for 72 hours just so I could hold this stupid sign up on TV!". It’s stupid, plain and simple. Put down your damn sign and watch the friggin’ show!

Sign, Sign, Everywhere A Sign

Jeff Wilen in his JAWbreaker segment at three8six.com, spoke to Kevin Nash on the phone yesterday afternoon. Nash told Wilen that his contract with TNA runs out on October 10th and that he had been in talk with Vince McMahon.

‘I talked to Vince (McMahon)," Nash said. ‘He offered me a contract, but he wanted me to dye my hair.’

Nash reiterated a TNA Wrestling schedule would be easier on him than a WWE schedule.

Nash had told other reporters in the past week that he wasn’t trying to rush any negotiations and that he had more to lose in the stock market right now than in a new contract.

Kevin Nash’s Status In TNA

“The time was right for me to make a change, try a new approach and go for some new opportunities. No one respects the WWE more than me. They have created a remarkable brand in business and sports entertainment. I just felt it was time for Ric Flair to go out and try some new things. I was thinking that I need the right person to help me be successful in the next chapter of my life,” Flair said. “And that person is Elaine Gillespie.”

Will we see Flair in TNA? Maybe, maybe not. Rumors will fly and rumors will be shot down. You never really know until you hear it from a credible source.

Rick Flair Comments On His Decision To Leave The WWE

Backstage Cage tried to convince both Steiner and Tomko to win the Gauntlet for the Gold match and then forfeit it so Cage could keep his title. Not to give in both Steiner and Tomko ignored the offer and decided to do their best to win the match.

The Gauntlet for the Gold match to determine the Number 1 contender for Cages titled commenced and took up a good chunk of the episode. Wrestlers in the match were Sting, AJ Styles, Rhino, Abyss, Kurt Angle, Tomko, Samoa Joe, and Scott Steiner mixed with other jobbers. While trying to eliminate Robert Roode (jobber) Angle himself was eliminated by foe Scott Steiner. Samoa Joe, Tomko, and Steiner were the final three competitors. With Steiner seemingly having the upper hand Joe threw him over the top rope and it was just Tomko and the Samoan Submission Machine left for in the status match. Joe pinned Tomko shortly after making Samoa Joe the number one contender and likely setting up both a title match at Destination in March and possibly a match between Steiner and Angle.

Against All Odds Results: Cage Retains

Sting got been down on impact after locking Abyss’ manager James Mitchell in a cage. After being freed by Abyss Mitchell and “The Monster” beat down Sting. It will be interesting to see if the beat down has any lasting effects leading into their Prison Yard Match at Against All Odds.

Christian Cages Consultant Revealed

Abyss will face Chase Stevens of the Naturals in a singles match tonight. The match will serve as preperation for Abyss’ prison yard match with Sting at Against All Odds. It will be interesting to watch this one to see if Sting makes a special appearance at ringside.

Also on the show Team 3D is set to respond to LAX’s brutal beating shown on last week’s episode. In action will also be Rhino, Jerry Lynn and Senshi facing off with James Storm, Chris Sabin, and Austin Starr. 

Remember, this Sunday is TNA’s Against All Odds PPV which means they will be airing a “Road to Against All Odds” special this Saturday at Midnight on Spike TV.

TNA iMPACT! Preview – February 8th, 2007

First match of the evening is an X-division five corner showcase with Jay Lethal vs. Alex Shelley vs. Sonjay Dutt vs. Austin Starr vs. Jerry Lynn. Not a bad x-division match. Nice match type, not very common to see this match or many comptitors on a typical episode. Mid-match Chris Sabin comes to ring side to ridicule Jerry Lynn. Sabin distracts Lynn and Austin Staar tries to take advantage of Lynn’s status only to hit Sabin instead. Lynn tries to counter for the win but despite the hit Sabin helps Staar get the win. Looks like TNA is continuing to push a Jerry Lynn/Chris Sabin X-division rivalry.

In a video by the Paparazzi LAX is shown beating up Team 3D member Brother Ray’s Uncle in a restauraunt. After a Samoa Joe in ring piece about Cage’s informant a singles match is up next with Robert Roode facing  Petey Williams. James Storm came into the ring just after the match began kicking former partner Williams to allow Rude to get a three count.

In one of the better twists on TNA recently James Mitchell came to the ring to tell sting to accept a prison yard match against Abyss only to find Sting in the ceiling with one of Abyss’ masks covering his face. This should really do a good job in keeping the Sting/Abyss storyline hot.

In the main event AJ Styles faced his longtime in ring rival Samoa Joe. Joe put Styles out of the ring and onto the floor where Styles pleads with the ref to call the match. But to no avail the ref allows the match to continue and after he doesn’t get in the ring AJ is thrown into the ring by none other than Rhino. Rhino and Joe both get some good hits in before break leading the match to be a no contest but both Rhino and Samoa Joe truly came out on top. Before break Joe calls out Christian Cage warning him that he wants a face to face talk.

Continuing the recent iMPACT! trend of not ending the show with a match but instead with a storyline piece Kurt Angle took to the ring. He yells at Joe because he still believes Joe is Cage’s informant. Angle attacks Joe only to be hit over the head with a chair by Cage. Christian then tries to come to an agreemant with Joe only to be attacked by him instead. AJ Styles returns to attack Joe seemingly sparking some good storylines for next weeks episode but also for the upcoming PPV.
