Wrapping up the last of the series of posts where I’ve been sharing all of the toolbars from the Microsoft Office 2007 ribbon toolbars. This last post is from probably one of the least used applications by the mainstream user community for Office products.

The Access 2007 application has the least amount of toolbars and functions than any of the other products, even though the application is perhaps the most powerful of the entire Office suite for customization and development power.

Access 2007 can work with and integrate with the other Office applications like Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, Microsoft PowerPoint and Microsoft Outlook. Yet with all that integration and possibility, the least amount of toolbars.

Sometimes it’s still hard to find what you’re looking for in Access though, just like the other applications. Click on the image below to see all of the Access toolbars in full-size, all together in one place.

After doing these different posts, I’m starting to feel like I should be quizzing myself on what I’m seeing and see if I can remember them all later.

The problem is I know I’ve seen it, I just can’t remember which “ribbon” in the new Office interface is the one holding the tool I’m looking for or needing.

Sometimes the challenge is that you know you saw it somewhere but you start looking at each ribbon set one-by-one and you forget what you’ve seen where and what else was around when you saw it.

Frequently I find myself looking for one of the tools on a Microsoft Office 2007 application.

Sometimes the challenge is that you know you saw it somewhere but you start looking at each ribbon set one-by-one and you forget what you’ve seen where and what else was around when you saw it. I think it’s similar to the same feeling you have when you’re lost and everything starts looking the same, but you still don’t know where you are or where you’ve been.

What I decided might come in handy for me is to put together a graphic of every toolbar stacked up next to each other so I can effectively see everything at once.

There are still a few different sections of the ribbon toolbar that expand to show more options, but this gives you a good starting point. I believe I’ll end up doing this for each of the major Office 2007 application for my use and for posts to come.

Click on the image below for the full-sized, single image I’ve put together.

I’ve been blogging a bit lately about how we have this unneeded fascination with the size of our technology devices. I’ve argued that for my personal preference having the smallest version of something doesn’t really matter to me, in my daily work, portable is more helpful than completely mobile.

I’m going to contradict myself a bit now with that argument. When it comes to screen real-estate, I want an effective use of space. This argument may be less of a rant on size though and more of a rant on flexibility and personal preference.

This was recently made clear to me as I was trying to customize the display and organization of my toolbars in Mozilla Firefox.

If we take a look at the graphic above, there’s an illustration of what I’m talking about here. Layered towards the back of the graphic is how my collection of toolbars currently display in Mozilla Firefox 3.5.1. Taking up quite a bit of screen space.

My preference, after manually editing how I’d like things to be organized in a graphics program, is the way the color graphic is displayed. It’s a little hard to tell perhaps, but my Firefox related toolbars are stacked horizontally at the top, with the bookmarks bar below, then followed by my Google Toolbar and StumbleUpon toolbar’s stacked horizontally at the bottom. Three lines of toolbars instead of the previous five lines of toolbars.

From what I can tell, in Firefox, toolbars are locked and cannot be stacked horizontally to save space. Am I missing something that will allow me to do that?

Perhaps the more surprising aspect of the thing now is that I’m still surprised when I see it. What is this application I keep seeing? The Windows Language Bar!

Windows Language Bar, Do you use it?

That leaves me to ask the question of why? Why is it still active. Why was it activated in the beginning in the first place?

Let’s take care of getting rid of it using the instructions below.

Right-click on a blank space in your toolbar and a submenu displays

Go to “Toolbars”

Deselect the Language Bar

Ta da! You’re done! So easy, now you don’t have to waste any time or screen real-estate to looking at something you don’t even use.
