According to reports, Michigan’s coaching staff has been pushing the players to work out many more hours than is allowable according to NCAA rules. While these extra hours are “voluntary” on paper, anonymous players have said that punishment was in store for anyone who didn’t volunteer their time.

Sez the Buckeyes, “Um…yeah.”

Kurt Coleman and Doug Worthinton, co-captains of Ohio State’s team, say that every college football player in every program is putting in extra time if they want to have a great season. They look at the 20 hours per week during the season that the NCAA says is a max for mandatory work out time as a minimum.

Coach Jim Tressel agrees, saying that in his experience, the players want to be there more and more and more hours. They want to be good, because on Saturday, they want to be on the field.

sxc.hu

Today’s workout:

incline treadmill 12 minutes, 1.3 miles + 4.5 minutes add-on cool down/run to finish with 16 minutes and 1.6 miles

standing shoulder press 3×12 40 lbs

3×20 decline sit-ups

standing 45 degree shoulder flies 3×12 25 lbs

3×12 situps on ball with 12 pound medicine ball pull over

6 minutes stair stepper level 4 with increase in last 2 minutes

3×30 seconds bridge

3×12 alternating arm/leg balance (don’t know what to call it but i think it’s involved in yoga

4×1 spider man crawls (can’t touch knees to floor)

1×10 dumbell squats with 25 lbs

1×10 1 legged squats on elevated bench

There may have been one more thing, but that should be it. I then came home and ate, rested and went back in the backyard.

air punches

step ups with knee strive

jog in place

balance on one leg with other knee up waist high

The second session lasted about 20-25 minutes.

I had a good amount of energy but this little to no rest circuit is draining me. I’m not used to it. I usually give myself a comfortable grace period and now I’m just trying to make it through each exercise. I did sit down after the run to start off the workout. I didn’t have much more to give. I’m telling you, if you ever have a lot of pent up anger, rage, or whatever go take it out on an incline treadmill. You’ll calm down in a hurry.

After about 2 hours total of high intensity (or all I could muster) exercise, I am done. In fact, I’m about to go to sleep, but the good thing is I’m burning a ton of calories and I’m going to lose a little bit of weight and tone some in the next few days.

If you want quick gains, you have to take it up another 3-4 notches. It is difficult when it’s happening, but the rewards of training until exhaustion are worth it.

1x 6 minutes stair stepper level 8

1×6 minutes stair stepper level 6 + higher at the end

All of these exercises were spliced and mixed with each other. I usually rotated between two, but sometimes I incorporated three. I know many of those are single muscle exercises, but I really didn’t have much more. I had enough trouble climbing the mental wall of going from exercise to exercise without rest. Even though you’re not working the same muscles, you still get tempted to give yourself a little rest.

I was breathing hard throughout most of the workout, especially after the cardio. The key to this circuit was pushing through any resting periods. If you need to lighten the weight, go for it as long as you can keep going. Also, try to alternate the more difficult exercises with the less difficult ones so you don’t feel tempted to rest up so much. Of course, make sure you have plenty of water to hydrate yourself through such a challenging session.

The Picture Tools ribbon could very well be in my Top 5 list of new features in Office 2007. I’m regularly working with images in my day job, with blogging and with my variety of web clients. For most of my work I’m using a variety of programs ranging from the free Irfanview, to SnagIt, to the full-featured Macromedia Fireworks MX.
But for quick editing of images and making some creative changes to graphics, Word has started to become fairly full-featured for the average home user.

I’ve been running Office 2007 now for about 6 months or so across the various iterations. I’ve been pleased with the new features and organization of information. It does take a little bit of getting used to and finding some of the lesser used features, but that’s the whole point right.

My wife needed to print some labels tonight and asked me how to do it with “the new Word”. I’d never done it before so I told her to give me a minute and I’d figure it out and show her.

Let’s just say I needed more than a minute.

With the new ribbon interface, I knew exactly where to go to get things done, but actually accomplishing the task was a little harder.

I’ve done this type of thing before with Word and it wasn’t too hard. It sometimes took me a few minutes to remember how to print different names on all the labels instead of the same name on all the labels, but I’d figure it out. I got to that point with Word 2007 and did everything as needed. Everything seemed good.

The biggest challenge though is when it prepared the document to allow me to start entering names, it didn’t display any of the label margins or guidelines to give me an idea of where to start typing. It all looked like one large, blank piece of white paper. I finally was able to just start typing text, copying the text, then pasting it into the different areas after finding each section by tabbing through. That seemed too convoluted to me though.

Isn’t there a way to show the label borders and guidelines for where to start typing text? Let me know if you figure it out.
