In these difficult economic times, it may be time for a Transition.

We’re not talking about moving to a new job or a cheaper apartment. We’re talking about treating yourself to the most awesome toy to come down the pike since the Harry Potter vibrating broomstick.

That’s because the Terrafugia Transition is a roadable aircraft or, to put it another way, a flying car.

Yes, for just under 200 thousand dollars you can be the envy of your neighborhood as you land a plane on the main street near your home and then seamlessly pull a car into your garage at the end of the cul-de-sac.

The Transition is cheaper than owning your own plane, because there’s no need to rent hangar space. You can keep it right in your garage and freak the daylights out of your neighbor when he comes over to borrow your lawnmower.

You’ll never have to worry about delayed flights with your personal aircraft due to bad weather. If it looks a little cloudy, you can just land the Transition and drive to wherever you’re going.

The Transition is not for the eco-minded. With a carbon footprint the size of Jupiter, the car is more about being cool than being socially conscious — yet another reason to blow your kid’s education fund on this 007-like vehicle.
