Penn State’s Andrew Quarless Suits Up

Earlier this week, Penn State tight end Andrew Quarless was suspended along with two other players – defensive starters Maurice Evans and Abe Koroma. Apparently, the police were called to the apartment the three share with teammate AJ Wallace when they threw a loud party. Upon searching the premises, police found a “small amount” of marijuana.
Wallace was found to be uninvolved right away, leaving the other three guys to take the heat. All were suspended, at least until Coach Joe Paterno got more information, since no one was formally charged with anything yet. Today, though, we were given …read more

Why your Degree is Important, even if you are Tim Tebow

This past week, an Oklahoma police department reported that Jamelle Holieway was arrested and spent a few hours in jail. The charges? Unpaid traffic tickets.
For those of your with a short-term memory (of for those of you who don’t give a rat’s ass about Oklahoma), Holieway was the freshman quarterback who replaced the injured Troy Aikmen in 1985. He led the Sooners to a National Championship that year and, to date, is the only true freshman to accomplish this victory.
This would just be a funny story, but there’s more to the story. The unpaid tickets were for speeding …read more

Duke: "In Our Defense, We Suck…"

Duke is so bad at football that they’re winning court cases based on their suckage.
Earlier this yeah, Louisville sued Duke because they decided that they didn’t want to play them over the next three years. The contract between the schools calls for “$150,00 penalty per game if a date with a team of similar stature could not be scheduled.”
Duke gets out of paying the $450,000 penalty because the judge sided with Duke’s lawyers – Duke is SO bad that ANY Division I team would be able to replace them. In other words, no matter WHO replaced Duke, it would …read more

I’m Sick of Bush

If you’re sick of hearing about the Reggie Bush case, raise your hand.
*Raises hand*
When this whole thing was first going down, I was pretty interested. I hate how corrupt certain teams are, and I hate how people take advantage of the system.
Honestly though? It is to the point where I just don’t give a shit. Today, the depositions were postponed until at least late this summer so the judge can consider Bush’s request that the cases be moved to arbitration.
At this point in a blog post, I’d usually rehash the start of the story for those who don’t …read more

Football Players Shouldn’t have to Work…

Today, the AP reported that Oklahoma is taking new precautions to avoid football players getting paid for work they did not do. Because of the NCAA fiasco last year, employers are now no longer allowed to have more than five players at a time working for them.
But OU ad the NCAA are missing the bigger picture, which employers everywhere seem to understand. Football players shouldn’t have to work! Why?
College football players shouldn’t have to work because…
1)…football is going to be their career. There are TONS of teams in the NFL, and don’t most players get drafted anyway? I mean, …read more

Austin Scott Rape Charges are Dropped

Yesterday, Centre County’s district attorney announced that all charges against former Penn State running back Austin Scott were being dropped.
Way to ruin his life, people.
Ok, I’m being unfair. If Scott really had raped that girl, I feel so sorry that he wasn’t brought to justice…and regardless, I was never a huge Austin Scott fan (for various reasons). However, if I had to guess, I’d say that they both had too much to drink, that she didn’t assert the fact that she didn’t want sex, and that it just happened. Again, no disrespect to rape victims out there – …read more

Chris Bell: One More Lost Cause?

Today, reports by the AP at ESPN and other news sources are telling us that Penn State Wide receiver Chris Bell has been kicked off the team for good after another off-field incident.
Bell, who was involved in that February suspension involving the multi-player fight off campus, allegedly threatened another student (another player?) with a knife in one of Penn State’s dining halls.
Wait, wait, wait. Let’s think about his thought process:
1. I hate him.
2. I have a knife.
3. I know where he’s eating.
4. I hate him.
5. What other diners? People can see me?
*tackle. handcuff.*
6. Crap.
Serious man. This was …read more

Update on the Taylor Bradford Murder Case

Last September, University of Memphis football player Taylor Bradford was shot outside of his apartment. The 23-year-old student athlete managed to drive away, but his wounds were deadly, and he died just a few blocks away from the attack.
Today, prosecutes announced that the four suspects that have been in jail since October are being officially indicted on murder charges. The alleged killers are:

Courtney Washington, 23
Daeshawn Tate, 22
Victor Trezevant, 21
Devin Jefferson, 21

What really happened here? We may never know. Police suspect that Bradford was targeted by people he knew in an attempt to steal recent casino winnings that he had …read more

Dear Marquis Booker

Dear Marquis Booker,
I just read the news story of your arrest and cracked up. You threatened to “light the place up”? I took a look at your bio…you’re from Ardmore, Oklahoma, not Detroit or Atlanta or New York. I’m sorry, you’re not allowed to say “light the place up” unless your from some ghetto. I’m making that an official rule.

This is Ardmore. The bad section. (Photo credit: Wikicommons)
But really…come on. You threw your college football career away for some kind of little bar fight. What, was someone making fun of you? If not, they are now.
Word to the wise: …read more

Is This Football? Or Did I Suddenly Start Writing a Blog about Rap Music?

ESPN is reporting that today, Lloyd Lake walked out of the courtroom before giving his deposition.  Well isn’t that handy.
For those of you that have been living under a rock, Lake is the supposed sports manager suing Reggie Bush for a breach of contract.  He claims that he bought the USC star a car and other gifts (a blatant breaking of NCAA rules) while he was still in college in exchange for a promise to become the running back’s manager. When Bush chose another manager and Lake’s company effectively shut down, he decided to bring this shady deal to light. …read more
