Photo Finish for Fischer (GER)

Sven Fischer of Germany edged out two-time defending Olympic champion Ole Einar Bjoerndalen to take the Gold at the Biathlon event.
Fischer finished the 10km sprint in 26 minutes 11.6 seconds. His closest rival, Silver Medalist Halvard Hanevold of Norway, was 8.2 seconds behind.

Is a Blood Doping Scandal Brewing in Turin?

Could a doping scandal be brewing or is this just a case of cross country skiers keeping up with the Jones’?  Hey, he/she is doing it, so I have to do it to compete with them.  Whatever the case, why if this practice is illegal is the suspension only for five days?
Eight Olympic cross-country skiers, including two Americans and one former gold medalist, were suspended for five days after they were found to have excessive hemoglobin levels — the first hint of scandal at the Turin Games.

The Opening Ceremony for 2006 Winter Olympics (Torino, Italy) is officially underway.
Hi! My name is YC. I am the Chief Resident Technocrat from the Technocrat Soapbox. I would like to thank Mr. Jeremy Wright for the opportunity to blog on the 2006 Winter Olympics.

Turin or Torino? Allow me to help you out

I’ve been confused lately about the whole Turin/Torino thing. For the longest time I thought it was “Torino”, then I saw “Turin” poping up everywhere, so I started calling it that. Then I started seeing it referred to as “Torino” again.
If you’re a bit on the slow side like me, then allow me to help you out-
The “real” Italian name of the city is “Torino”. The American butchered version is “Turin”.
Normally it’s the other way around, with Americans having to add an extra vowel for some reason. But not here. It’s “Turino”.
