The historical event occurred just over a month ago on pay per view and featured three major fights: Brock Lesnar versus Frank Mir 2, Georges St Pierre vs Thiago Alves, and TUF coaches Michael Bisping vs Dan Henderson.

UFC 100 - Image: UFC

UFC 100 was the best selling UFC event ever with over 1.7 million buys and a 5 million dollar gate. Even if you already saw the event, there’s still a reason to watch: three preliminary fights from the event that were not originally shown will make their debut on the Spike broadcast.

So what’s the occasion for the UFC to be so nice about giving away it’s content? Rival promotion Strikeforce is running it’s own MMA show this Saturday on Showtime, and the UFC has a long history of counter-programming it’s competition. While some see that as dirty pool, for those with DVRs it just means twice as much action!

Here’s the fights from UFC 100 that will be shown on Spike: Brock Lesnar vs Frank Mir (UFC Heavyweight title unification bout), Georges St Pierre vs Thiago Alves (UFC Welterweight title fight), Dan Henderson vs Michael Bisping (Ultimate Fighter 9 coach fight), Stephan Bonnar vs Mark Coleman (previously unaired), Jon Jones vs. Jake O’Brien (previously unaired), and Shannon Gurgerty vs. Matt Grice (previously unaired).

As for the Strikeforce card, I’ll be breaking that down more later today but it features Gina Carano vs Cris Cyborg (for the Strikeforce Women’s 145 pound title), Babalu Sobral vs Gegard Mousasi, and Gilbert Melendez vs Mitsuhiro Ishida 2 (for the Strikeforce lightweight title). This is a great card as well and if you happen to get Showtime and want to check out some more non-UFC action, I highly recommend it. Those of you who took my advice and checked out the WEC last Sunday already saw a great night of fights and this card is looking like it will be just as good.

Michael Bisping’s UK team might have swept the Ultimate Fighter finals but it was Dan Henderson who got the last laugh on Saturday night at UFC 100. For the first round of their fight he stalked Bisping and threw huge right hand bombs that kept the British fighter retreating. For his part, Bisping looked more like one of TUF team than it’s coach and was unable to respond with more than a few anxious jabs. In the second, the route continued until Henderson landed a power shot that sent Bisping to the canvas, out cold at 3:20 of round two.

Michael Bisping - Image: Zuma Press

There was controversy afterwards as Henderson gave the clearly unconscious Bisping an extra shot to the face before the referee could step in and officially stop the fight. It took a good half minute to minute for the British fighter to come around and when he did he had no idea what was going on. In his victory interview with Joe Rogan, Dan admitted he knew Bisping was out and the extra one was “just to shut him up a little bit.” So you can look at the amount of crap Bisping served Henderson up during their season of TUF and decide for yourself if it was kinda sorta justified or an all out dick move.

The knockout itself was extra impressive and earned Dan Henderson a $100,000 award from the UFC for KO of the night.

On Saturday night at UFC 100, Brock Lesnar snuffed out Frank Mir and became the undisputed UFC heavyweight champion. But it wasn’t exactly the kind of victory that would make for a good uplifting movie because afterwards Brock Lesnar the professional fighter reverted back to Brock Lesnar the professional wrestler.

Brock Lesnar - Image: Zuma Press

The whole situation started with Lesnar getting into the bloodied face of his defeated opponent and telling him to “talk some more poop now.” Note that I replaced Lesnar’s four letter word with one of my own just for those who are rendered morally distraught by swearing. While this act was a little more understandable in the context of three months worth of smack talk from Frank Mir, Lesnar wasn’t done yet.

Amongst Lesnar’s other actions were flipping off the crowd, encouraging them to boo him, expressing disdain for the UFC biggest sponsor Bud Light, and sharing his plans to possibly ‘climb up on top of’ his wife, former WWE diva Sable. All in all, an excellent way to end a Wrestlemania, but this is the UFC, not WWE. Here’s what he told Joe Rogan during post-fight interview in the cage:

“Frank Mir had a horsehoe up his ass. I told him that a year ago. I pulled that son of a bitch out, and I beat him over the head with it. I’m gonna go home tonight and i’m gonna drink a Coors Light … that’s a Coors light because Bud Light won’t pay me nothing. I’m gonna sit down with my friends and family, and hell I might even get up on top of my wife tonight!”

While UFC president Dana White is often getting into trouble himself for being brash and outspoken, that didn’t stop him from dragging Lesnar into his locker room bathroom after the fight and chewing him out. A more collected Lesnar later apologized in full for his theatrics, complete with a bottle of Bud Light in his hand and a promise to throw back a few before the night was over.

UFC 100 has come and gone and we’ve got all the results from the biggest UFC event of the year!

Brock Lesnar made Frank Mir eat his words tonight, taking his opponent down in both the first and second rounds and slipping a number of punches right to the kisser through Mir’s arms. Despite an early leglock attempt in the first and flying knee in the second from Frank Mir, Brock’s size and strength were just too much. The fight ended 1:48 into the second round when Lesnar pinned Mir against the cage and knocked him unconscious.

UFC 100 - Image: UFC

Georges St Pierre dominated Thiago Alves with his wrestling in a fight that was impressive but not exactly the most exciting thing in the world. Alves was unable to get his striking game going and spent the large majority of the fight on his back being smothered by the French Canadian champion. Despite a groin injury in the third, St Pierre kept the pressure on and won the fight via decision, with judges scoring it 50-45, 50-45, and 50-44.

In other action, Michael Bisping looked completely outclassed by Dan Henderson, who spent the entire fight throwing loaded right hands at the nervous looking Brit until one finally caught Bisping flush and knocked him out for a good minute or two at 3:20 of the second round.

Jon Fitch avenged his teammate Josh Koscheck’s loss to Paulo Thiago by grinding out a methodical decision on the ground and avoiding several nice choke attempts from Thiago.

And Yoshihiro Akiyama won what many are considering a bogus split decision over Alan Belcher in what was essentially a stand-up battle. While Belcher seemed to be hitting harder, Akiyama was the more accurate of the two and spent the majority of the night ducking half of Belcher’s blows and countering with two shots landed in return.

Now on to the results of the undercard fights which were not featured on the Pay Per View event:

Mark Coleman defeated Stephan Bonnar via unanimous decision (29-28, 29-28, 29-28)

Jim Miller defeated Mac Danzig via unanimous decision (30-27, 30-27, 30-27)

Jon Jones defeated Jake O’Brien via submission (guillotine choke) at 2:43 of round 2

Dong Hyun Kim defeated TJ Grant via unanimous decision (30-26, 30-26, 30-26)

Tom Lawlor defeated CB Dollaway via submission (guillotine choke) at 0:55 of round 1

Shannon Gugerty defeated Matt Grice via submission (guillotine choke) at 2:36 of round 1

Now we’ll take a look at the main event featuring fake fighter turned real fighter Brock Lesnar against ground expert Frank Mir.

Brock Lesnar - Image: Zuma Press

The fun thing about this fight is both guys have weaknesses that the other is easily capable of exploiting. Lesnar has only been training mixed martial arts for a few years and there’s no way his jiu jitsu is even close to Frank Mir’s. On the other hand Brock Lesnar hits harder than a truck, and Mir has never done well against guys who manage to whack him in the face a few times. There’s a very easy way to boil this fight down: if it stays on the feet, Brock will win. If it goes to the ground, that’s Frank’s domain … unless it goes to the ground because that’s where Brock’s fists send Mir.

One interesting factor in all this is whether Frank Mir has managed to get under the skin of Brock Lesnar. Mir has spent the last three months talking smack about Lesnar and the former WWE star has been acting extra dour lately, walking out on interviews and press conferences. Who knows if this is the real Brock or just pro wrestling style theatrics. But it adds another dimension to the fight … with all his physical tools, this is Lesnar’s fight to lose but because of Mir’s submission skills all it takes is one hot headed mistake and Lesnar will find himself sans heavyweight belt.

This isn’t the only huge fight on the UFC 100 card. Fighting for the welterweight belt is Georges St Pierre versus Thiago Alves, and the coaches from season 9 of the Ultimate Fighter, Dan Henderson and Michael Bisping, will also face off to see who’s next in line for the middleweight belt. The show starts at 10pm on Pay Per View and is guaranteed to be an amazing and historic night of fights, so don’t miss out!

To help you catch up to speed, I’m gonna go through the hype for the fight and break it down so you know what’s up.

Michael Bisping - Image: Zuma Press

First let’s look at Dan ‘Hendo’ Henderson. He started out as a wrestler and represented the US in the 1992 and 1996 Olympics (something the UFC didn’t push much, a bit strange considering it made him the perfect guy to coach Team USA on the Ultimate Fighter). One year after his last Olympic bid he started competing in mixed martial arts and a year after that he was in the UFC. But money was better in Japan so that’s where he went and that’s where he stayed for nearly a decade, fighting a long list of impressive guys like Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira (twice), Wanderlei Silva (twice), Renzo Gracie, and Vitor Belfort. Most recently he defeated Rich Franklin at UFC 93.

Michael Bisping’s career started in 2004 but has been very explosive – it started with a 10 win streak in regional UK shows that drew the UFC’s eye. Just a year after his career started, he was drafted into the third season of the Ultimate Fighter, which he won easily. His only career defeat was a shifty split decision loss to Rashad Evans, but with his biggest wins coming over Chris Leben and Matt Hamill, he hasn’t seen a shadow of the competition Dan Henderson has seen.

But while experience is an advantage for Dan, age may be a disadvantage. Hendo is 38 years old to Bisping’s 30, and he wouldn’t be the first old legend to fall to a hungry up and comer lately – Chuck Liddell, Matt Hughes, and Mirko Crocop can attest to that.

While Henderson’s bread and butter is in his ground control, he’s got knockout power and is perfectly willing to stay on the feet. Still, that’s where Bisping has his best chance of winning this fight – while he’s not known for seperating his opponents from their consciousness, he’s freaking fast and accurate. If things go to the ground he could be in trouble, but he’s also shown an almost Chuck Liddell style ability to get right back up to his feet when that happens.

So who’s going to win? MMA Math points to Dan Henderson – he’s already beaten so many amazing fighters that Bisping seems barely worthy to hold his jockstrap. And while both guys are well rounded, Henderson edges Bisping on wrestling, submission offense and defense, and knockout power. While Bisping has better technical standup, that advantage disappears when Dan comes close enough to clinch, another area he excels in. But even with all logic pointing to Hendo, I still have a strange gut feeling that Michael Bisping will drag this fight to a decision and win on the judge’s scorecards. But I probably listen to my gut too much, and it gets me in trouble. Now it’s telling me to eat an entire box of Oreo cookies. If only I was able to ignore it’s gurgling siren song…
