With their wins, each of the following fighters won some extra money at last Saturday night’s UFC 98 . A total of $240,000 ($60,000 each) was awarded for “Fight Of the Night”, Knockout Of The Night” and “Submission Of The Night”. Yves Lavigne should have got a bonus for “Despised Official Of The Night” as he was booed every time they announced his name.
Matt Hughes and Matt Serra (whom did not win but got a bonus anyway), walked away with an extra $60k each for their fight which was awarded “Fight Of The Night”, even though many considered it to …read more
UFC 98 Results

UFC 98 Results: Last night’s UFC 98 PPV event was a good event in my opinion. Sometimes things were kind of slow, but that’s what happens when you have fighters trying to out-think the other and wait for them to make the first move. Through out the event they showed3 of the 5 preliminary fights to fill the time.
The first prelim fight they showed was Andre Gusmao vs. Krzysztof Soszynski . Krzysztof came out the winner in the first round with a TKO after a ref stoppage. Krzysztof actually knocked Gusmao out cold.
Lyoto Machida Vs. Rashad Evans

Watching the countdown to tonight’s UFC 98 has been very interesting. When you see both Machida and Evans training they are both obviously very fast and dangerous fighters to say the least.
Lyoto Machida often get criticized for his “running away”. I’ve never thought it was “running away” but a great defense. No fighters wants to get hit and/or potentially knocked out. He’s very tactical and often dodges the incoming punches and kicks with great speed and skill. He backs off when being aggressed and waits for his moment to strike. When he does, he unleashes a fury of powerful and …read more

Less than three weeks away from WEC 41 and less than 5 days away from UFC 98! From one great event to another. I seriously can not wait to see Urijah Faber and Mike Brown get in the ring. It’s going to be a great night to say the least. This coming weekend we get to see Lyota Machida try to keep sis head off of the mat as Rashad Evans does his best to do the same.
Until June 7th you can check out this almost 5 minute preview of WEC 41. I’d love to see Faber come win but …read more

Matt Serra UFC 98 Video Blog Day 2 and 3

Before I get to the video, let me just say that today was the first time I saw the Manny Pacquiao and Ricky Hatton fight and wow! Can you imagine if the refs in the UFC separated the fighters that often? Other than that it was a good fight. That last punch that Pacquiao threw had all his weight behind it and it landed square. Hatton took a good 5 minutes to totally come to. Pacquiao was very humble but his coach didn’t hesitate to point out Hatton’s weaknesses and justify why he said that the fight would go more …read more

This “Grudge” match has been almost two years in the making, but both times it was suppose to happen one of the two fighters had some sort of injury. There is no hiding the fact that Matt Serra, the winner of the UFC Ultimate Fighter season 2, has some hatred of Matt Hughes. In fact they are both pretty open about their dislike for each other. Check out Serra’s [first] video blog for UFC 98. Matt Serra is always an entertaining guy.

Houston Alexander was going in to UFC 98 with a ‘must win” situation. Now he’s sitting it out after suffering a broken hand. UFC.Com reports that his May 23rd fight with Andre Gusmao will obviously not happen and a replacement for Alexander has already been named.
Krzysztof Soszynski will fight Gusmao after coming off his recent win at UFC 97 over Brian Stann . Looks like Sosynski wants to make his name better known in the UFC…and get a paycheck while he’s at it.
Other replacements for UFC 98 are Chael Sonnen coming in to replace Yushin Okami , who tore his …read more
UFC 98: Houston Alexander’s Last Stand?

In 2007 This big headed, ripped fighter made his debut in the UFC , knocking out Keith Jardine in 48 seconds in the first round. His name was Houston Alexander and he was a force to be reckoned with…so most of us thought. Less than 4 months later he knocked out his second opponent, Alessio Sakara , at UFC 75.
We all thought for sure that he would climb the ladder of the Light-Heavyweights and soon be a contender.
Perhaps only a two month break was not a good idea, as he suffered his first loss to Thiago Silva at UFC 78 …read more
Brock Larson Replaces Coscheck At UFC 98

Josh Coscheck had to drop out of his fight against Chris Wilson at UFC 98: Evans Vs. Machida due to a foot injury last month. Brock Larson is replacing Coscheck to take on Wilson and sadly this is still an undercard fight.
Larsen brings an impressive record with 25 wins and 2 loses in his Career. He’s 2-1 in the UFC and this will be his first PPV with the UFC. His 2 loses were to John Fitch by decision back at UFC Fight Night 2 in 2005 and 1 loss in his WEC career to Carlos Condit in 2007. Other …read more
