Nog Wins War Against Couture at UFC 102

Randy Couture fought a valiant fight but it wasn’t enough: Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira defeated him in a three round fight that saw Big Nog take the decision off of knockdowns and submission attempts. Couture managed to stay in the fight right up to the final bell, but there was no doubt in anyone’s mind who won the fight.
Also winning in this fight were the fans, who witnessed what has to be a fight of the year candidate if I ever saw one. From slugging on the feet to near-finish submission escapes, this fight blew away quietly confident expectations and really …read more
Anderson Silva moving to heavyweight?
August 24, 2009 by Ryan Harkness

Anderson Silva apparently isn’t content bouncing between middleweight and light heavyweight. A report from Sports Illustrated recently stated that the 185 pound champion wants to move up to heavyweight and compete with the big boys. The fighter SI claims Silva has his eye on: Frank Mir, who beat Silva’s friend and training partner Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira back at UFC 92.
This is pretty crazy news, but Anderson has been chasing a challenge for the past two years and hasn’t been able to find one even after taking a few fights at light heavyweight. Not only should fights at heavyweight satisfy that …read more
Shane Carwin is next for Brock Lesnar

I dunno what happened over the past few days to make the UFC turn it’s heavyweight plan on it’s head, but something did. They just scrapped the Shane Carwin / Cain Velasquez title shot eliminator and have fast tracked Shane Carwin for a title shot against Brock Lesnar at UFC 106 in November.
Carwin made the cut, and Cain Velasquez gets thrown back for more seasoning: He’ll be fighting Ben Rothwell at UFC 104 now. In a way, this works out nicely. Carwin is a better stylistic match against Lesnar … he knocks people out in thunderous fashion and Brock Lesnar’s …read more
Chuck Liddell is on Dancing with the Stars

Chuck Liddell will be trading in the five ounce gloves for some dancing shoes as he prepares to show a different kind of footwork on the latest season of ABC’s Dancing with the Stars. The show premieres on Monday, September 21st at 8pm, and this season will feature the Iceman as one of the celebrity dancers.
This won’t be Chuck’s first time on the show. Several seasons ago, his then-girlfriend (or whatever he calls the many beautiful women he’s involved with at any given time) Willa Ford was a contestant and ABC did a little segment on her ‘good friend’ (wink …read more

The UFC has just announced that it will be replaying UFC 100 for free on SpikeTV this Saturday. The historical event occurred just over a month ago on pay per view and featured three major fights: Brock Lesnar versus Frank Mir 2, Georges St Pierre vs Thiago Alves, and TUF coaches Michael Bisping vs Dan Henderson.
FC 100 was the best selling UFC event ever with over 1.7 million buys and a 5 million dollar gate. Even if you already saw the event, there’s still a reason to watch: three preliminary fights from the event that were not originally shown will …read more
Silva crushes Griffin at UFC 101

BJ Penn defended his lightweight title last night against Kenny Florian at UFC 101, but the biggest story coming out of the night is the complete destruction of Forrest Griffin by middleweight champ Anderson Silva.
Silva was taking his second dip into the light heavyweight division after starching everyone at middleweight, and many thought the crafty former light heavyweight champ Griffin would use his size to give him trouble. But Silva didn’t take one serious shot in the whole fight and finished things at 3:23 of the first round with a quick jab that put Griffin on his back where he …read more
Don’t Forget! WEC 42 on Versus this Sunday
August 7, 2009 by Ryan Harkness

While the majority of the MMA world is eagerly awaiting UFC 101, there’s another fight event going on Sunday night that you may not have heard about: World Extreme Cagefighting 42.
What the hell is the WEC? It’s the UFC’s sister promotion, owned and operated by the same group of people. As for why Zuffa (the parent company of the UFC and WEC) owns two separate MMA promotions, the story is kinda amusing. Since SpikeTV has exclusive cable rights to live UFC events, so there was no way for the UFC to make a deal with the Versus channel. So …read more
BJ Penn Accuses St Pierre of Using Steroids
August 6, 2009 by Ryan Harkness

While BJ Penn is facing off against Kenny Florian this weekend at UFC 101, he still seems pretty hung up over his brutal loss to Georges St Pierre back in January. He spent the first half of the year accusing St Pierre’s corner of greasing him up between rounds (a huge fiasco that most determined was much ado about nothing), and now he’s making headlines again by accusing Georges of using steroids.
During an interview with Yahoo’s Kevin Iole, BJ said “It’s just my opinion that he uses steroids. That’s it. My opinion. I do believe it. I can’t hand you …read more
UFC 101 Preview: Silva vs Griffin
August 5, 2009 by Ryan Harkness
One of the most overlooked fights of the year is about to take place this Saturday at UFC 101: UFC 185 pound champ Anderson Silva will be moving up to 205 pounds to take on the original TUF winner, Forrest Griffin. The fight is more than just another toe in the light heavyweight waters for Silva. It’s also a match designed by the UFC to try and force him to actually fight, something he hasn’t really done in his last two fights.
Let’s go back a year to August 2008 for a second. Anderson Silva was one of the most feared …read more
UFC 101 Preview: BJ Penn vs Kenny Florian

With all the crazy politics going on lately, it’s easy to forget that from time to time fights actually happen in the cage. Over the next few days I’m going to do my best to get you up to speed on UFC 101, an awesome MMA card that’s happening this weekend in Philadelphia (and on your TV via pay per view). Today I’ll run through the main event: BJ Penn versus Kenny Florian.
This one’s for the UFC lightweight belt and has an interesting narrative behind it. BJ Penn just got pasted by Georges St Pierre a few months back … …read more
