It’s My Life

Sorry for the Bon Jovi reference but it just seemed to fit.
I had an interesting discussion with friends the other day about life meters. Life meters are a part of games that I have mixed emotions about. Back in the day when arcade machines were fed with quarters, the life meter was a necessary evil. If you were not dieing then you were not feeding the beast.
With the advent of home consoles systems, life meters were made obsolete. Dying every few seconds to get more quarters no longer serves any purpose. It was just annoying and could ruin a …read more

I’ll Go Check at The Gap

Where do game designers come up with clothes that the characters wear?
It started when I played Tomb Raider for the first time. I was like every other 16 year old boy and thought that is how every female should dress. (except some moms and the elderly) Then as I matured I stared to wonder – where does she keep all of those extra guns and items?
The latest version of this problem I am having is with Far Cry 2 and Uncharted. In Far Cry you runaround the desert in bluejeans and in Uncharted you run around the jungle in bluejeans. …read more

I Need Popcorn to Play my Game.

I loved the first Uncharted game.
I played through it with the quickness. I could not wait to see what would happen next. I liked the fact that Nate Drake was an average guy.
Because of that I was able to form an attachment to the character and the situation that made it impossible to put down the controller.
However, after the end credits finished rolling it sat on the shelf for three months and then I sold it.
With the upcoming release of Uncharted 2, I began to think about Uncharted. I wondered why it was so easy for my to get rid …read more

Uncharted is too safe, says Yahtzee

I like watching video reviews made by Ben Croshaw because it teaches me to be unflinchingly cynical when it comes to games. See how the British-born author deconstructs Uncharted: Drake’s Fortune.

Yes, I do like Uncharted for its shooting. There are no massive guns here, though I do find the action satisfying. But to say that Uncharted is a game for white supremacists? I’m not that jaded.

Staunch PC shooter fan reluctantly gets better in using analog sticks

I finished Call of Duty 4 last weekend. I never thought I’d be able to since I utterly suck in using analog sticks, but I did. Did I find it easy? Heavens no. How then was a staunch PC gamer able to finish one of the best shooters of 2007 on a console?
At first, I told myself I had no idea.
Then I started replaying Uncharted: Drake’s Fortune in the highest difficulty mode. Surprisingly, it wasn’t as hard as I imagined it to be. The shooting parts, at least.
I began to notice that the time it took me to shoot goons …read more

Uncharted first impressions

Uncharted first impressions

From what I’ve played so far, Uncharted: Drake’s Fortune is more satisfying than the PC version of Gears of War. They may seem like apples and oranges to you, but these two games are more similar than you think.
Of course, there are the obvious differences: Aside from not crashing every so often, Uncharted provides some light puzzle solving, copious platforming, and an Indiana Jones-like treasure hunt.

GameHopper is sending console games to doorsteps in the Philippines

My friendly neighborhood GameHopper delivery guy just left. I’ve just signed up for the service, and it’s been awesome so far. What is GameHopper anyways? Simply put, it’s a Philippine-based service that lets me try games out before I buy them.
The best part, I don’t have to leave home. The service delivers and picks-up the games, so all I have to do is pay using my credit card. I then wait for the game I borrowed to arrive.

Uncharted has it all: platforming, Hollywood explosions, and awesome shooting

I completely ignored Uncharted: Drake’s Fortune when it was being hyped since last year. After all, the game didn’t sound like a shooter and its title didn’t have any recall value for my brain cells. That is until I found out how awesome the shooting is. How awesome? Gears of War awesome.

Alas, the only thing Uncharted doesn’t have (aside from ninjas), is longevity. I’ve heard the game is short and sweet, but it’s much better fleeting than overstaying its welcome.
