United Steelworkers Approve Goodyear Contract

The United Steelworkers approved a contract with Goodyear that will cover more than 10,000 employees. The contract, which is four years in length, ends the chance of plant closures at six location between now and 2014.
Said Richard Kramer of Goodyear: “This agreement reflects the commitment of Goodyear and the USW to continue to work together to achieve our common goal of world-class competitiveness.”
Seven plants are covered by this new contract. Those plants are located in the following cities: Union City, Tennessee; Topeka, Kansas; Gadsden, Alabama; Fayetteville, North Carolina; Akron, Ohio; Danville, Virginia and Buffalo, New York.

United Steelworkers Supports Obama

President Barack Obama has announced that he plans to institute trade penalties to slow the number of tires for cars and light trucks coming from China. While China is angered by the decision, the United Steelworkers are smiling.
Leo W. Gerard, the United Steelworkers International President, says that the President’s decision will help American workers.
Said Gerard: “For far too long, workers across this country have been victimized by bad trade policies and government inaction. Today, President Obama made clear that he will enforce America’s trade laws and stand with American workers.”
