Bill Murray’s Kid Becomes a Coach

I guess I’m always surprised when the child of a famous actor goes into a profession other than acting. I mean, why not follow in the footsteps of dear old dad? In the case of Bill Murray, perhaps his son, Luke, just didn’t think he was as funny as the old man.

Who knows. But Luke Murray just signed on as a graduate assistant for the men’s basketball team at the University of Arizona. He’s a young guy, newly graduated in 2007, so at least he’ll be able to relate to the players.
But the question remains, will …read more

Aftermath of the Coleman/Budinger Incident gets out of hand

There was a lot of discussion this week over the incident where University of Houston player Aubrey Coleman was ejected after he stepped on the face of University of Arizona player Chase Budinger in a game last week.
Coleman was wrong and was punished by Conference USA. He even went on to issue a public apology.
End of story, right?
Think again.
Coleman is black and Budinger is white, so you know where this is going.
There’s a story out today that says since the incident Coleman has been receiving “racially charged emails and calls.”

Fallout From Lute Olson’s Resignation

I guess when you have a hall of fame coach who resigns suddenly, there is going to be some uncertainty among recruits.
Since Arizona University coach Lute Olson announced his retirement last Thursday, three players notified the school that they are taking their services elsewhere.
Arizona media is reporting that Abdul Gaddy, Solomon Hill and Mike Moser have opted out of committing to the Wildcats.
“We just kind of sat back and watched it,” his father, Abdul Gaddy Sr., told the Arizona Daily Star. “It seemed like they didn’t know what direction they were going to be going in. There was nothing …read more

Arizona Moves Fast In Naming Interim Coach

Man, that was fast!
The Wildcats announced today that assistant coach Russ Pennell will take over as interim coach just 24 hours after Lute Olson announced his retirement.
Associate head coach Mike Dunlap was originally offered the top job, but turned it down. Dunlap will keep his current position along with assistant coach and former Wildcats player Reggie Geary.
“Russ is a veteran assistant coach with a wealth of coaching experience,” Arizona athletic director Jim Livengood said in a statement. “His experience of working in three of the best basketball conferences in the nation will serve us well.”
According to a story today by …read more
