Dirk Nowitzki Explodes in Fourth Quarter

Dirk Nowitzki was quiet in the first three quarters of the Dallas Mavericks game against the Utah Jazz on Tuesday night. Then the fourth quarter began. With the Mavs trailing 67-52, Nowitzki exploded for 29 fourth quarter points to lead the Mavs to a 96-85 victory over the Jazz.
Nowitzki’s explosion set a new franchise record and he finished the contest with 40 points, 11 rebounds, five assists, five blocks and two steals. He hit 12-of-22 shots from the field, 1-of-3 three-pointers and 15-of-16 shots from the free throw line. Amazingly, he didn’t record a single turnover in the game.

Carlos Boozer Rumors and Destinations

Carlos Boozer and the Utah Jazz seemed destined to divorce this summer. That will become even more certain if the Jazz match the offersheet Paul Millsap received from the Portland Trail Blazers. With the Jazz desperate to shave salary, Boozer’s bloated contract is on the chopping block.
Where could Boozer be headed? The first team that makes a lot of sense is the Chicago Bulls. The Bulls could use a power forward with offensive skills and Boozer fits that need. A Bulls team with Boozer could really make noise in the Eastern Conference.

Paul Millsap Signs Blazers Offer

Paul Millsap has been one of the best bigmen off the bench in the NBA over the last few seasons while playing with the Utah Jazz. On Friday, Millsap signed an offersheet with the Portland Trail Blazers.
Since Millsap is a restricted free agent, the Jazz will have a week to match the offer. According to various reports, the contract is worth as much as $36 million over four seasons.
Last season, Millsap averaged 13.5 points, 8.6 rebounds and one block in 30.1 minutes per game. He shot 53.4% from the floor and dished out 1.8 assists per contest.

Tim Duncan Injury Update – Feeling Better

Tim Duncan, the four-time NBA champion and future Hall of Fame bigman for the San Antonio Spurs, told reporters on Friday night that his knees are feeling better. Since the All-Star break, Duncan has been hobbled by knee pain as the Spurs sunk in the Western Conference standings.
In recent weeks, Duncan has been sporting a pair of knee braces. Against the Utah Jazz, Duncan only had on one knee brace.
“It is basically gone,” said Duncan, talking about the pain in his right knee, “so it was good to be out there without a brace on and kind of play well.”
