Zvonareva Pulls Out of Wimbledon

An ankle injury forced Vera Zvonareva to withdraw from Wimbledon before her third-round match against France’s Virginie Razzano today. Ironically, the seventh-seeded Russian was sidelined for two months after injuring her ankle while playing against Razzano in April.
Earlier this month, Zvonareva played in the grass-court tournament at Eastbourne and didn’t complain about the injury but I’m guessing it was either never fully healed or she reinjured it in London this week. Either way, it’s really unfortunate.
Razzano will battle against whomever wins the match between France’s Marion Bartoli and Italy’s Francesca Schiavone.

Zvonareva advanced to the finals after defeating her doubles partner Victoria Azarenka 6-3, 6-3. Azarenka had a tough match full of four double faults. She wasn’t on her game that day and she knew it.

In honor of Maria Sharapova’s 6-1, 2-6, 6-0 win over Vera Zvonareva at the Qatar Open, we’ve decided to give the people what they want: A Maria montage.
The first one we posted is—darn YouTube!—no longer available. You would have loved it. It was a Maria slideshow-lovefest to Celine Dion’s “My Heart Will Go On.” Seriously. It was awesome in a let’s-point-and-laugh-at-the-guy-who-made-it kind of way.
But if you still want your Maria fix, check out this 5m, 41s almost (but not quite) as over the top as the other one we mentioned. Here’s “perfect” Maria in all her bikini-clad glory:
