If the last World Extreme Cagefighting event got you hooked and you were really looking forward to another night of awesome fights, I have some bad news for you: they have just delayed next Wednesday’s show until October 10th on account of an undisclosed injury to co-headliner Benson Henderson.
A legitimate question to ask would be why the WEC would cancel an entire event over one fighter who isn’t even a star attraction in any sense of the word. I’m wondering that right along with you, but if I was a betting man I’d say the reason is because of a …read more
Don’t Forget! WEC 42 on Versus this Sunday

While the majority of the MMA world is eagerly awaiting UFC 101, there’s another fight event going on Sunday night that you may not have heard about: World Extreme Cagefighting 42.
What the hell is the WEC? It’s the UFC’s sister promotion, owned and operated by the same group of people. As for why Zuffa (the parent company of the UFC and WEC) owns two separate MMA promotions, the story is kinda amusing. Since SpikeTV has exclusive cable rights to live UFC events, so there was no way for the UFC to make a deal with the Versus channel. So …read more

Mike Brown has posted his second blog entry leading up to his big fight [rematch] against top contender and former WEC Featherweight champ Urijah Faber . I’m sure Mike is taking this fight seriously and is training harder than he states (or at least sounds like) he is.
Brown’s second title defense happens on June 7th from Arco Arena in Sacramento California. Here is just a snippet of his blog entry. To read the entire entry go to WEC.Tv .
As much as I love to eat, I’m making sure to get the right supplements into my body and stay healthy. I went …read more

The Sports Business Journal is reporting that Versus and WEC are close to signing a multi-year deal to continue airing the popular MMA events. The original contract with Versus was for only three events but when the events drew huge rating for the channel, 15 more events were scheduled and the contract was extended.
Under the new contract, it is rumored that it will last for more than two years. It’s even rumored that Versus will have some rights to air preliminary fights, but …read more
WEC Looking At Pay Per View Options

You know what I really like about the WEC ? I can watch it without paying an arm and a leg. I think that’s what a lot of people like about it. When PPV plans are mentioned, a lot of WEC fans frown on the subject. Honestly, who has more money to spend on pay-per-views with the state of the economy and unemployment. I understand that it’s a sport and business and everyone in the rowks has to get paid and PPV’s make money, but I’m not entirely for this idea just yet.

The boxing reality show The Contender has found a new home, a new weight class, and its most impressive roster of fighters yet. After one season on NBC, and two on ESPN, the showcase for up-and-coming fighters will now be shown on the Versus Network. Let’s hope it does better than their famously low-rated NHL coverage. The new season will begin in December.
In the past few months Versus has intermittently put its toes in the boxing waters; its most notable event being May’s Ricky Hatton vs. Juan Lazcano bout. …read more
