A-Rod Hits the Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show

Gisele Bundchen, Brazilian supermodel and girlfriend to New England Patriots QB-but-not-for-this-season Tom Brady, is putting up some of her diamonds for auction.

Is she making room for more diamonds, or at least a certain kind of sparkly on a certain finger? Is she parting with the ice to banish the ghosts of boyfriends past? (Hey, she dated Leonardo di Caprio, remember?) Or does she need the money?

Man, we were thisclose to typing that last question with a straight face. 

Bridget Moynahan’s Baby Daddy’s skinnier half is mum as to why she’ll be selling the shiny stuff at Christie’s next month. But who cares, when the little people have a chance to pony up for the 3.35 carat Sabbadini diamond ring and/or a 6 carat—hey, doesn’t that make it heavier than Gisele herself?—diamond pendant necklace?

Start lining up those pennies in neat stacks of 10. The ring could nab $15-20K and the necklace, $150-200K.

Wanna Buy Gisele’s Old Bling-Bling?

No, Jaric had the other important ring in mind: the one he gave his now-bride-to-be, Victoria’s Secret supermodel Adriana Lima.

The Brazilian knockout and her Serb honey have been dwelling in coupledom for nine months. Early on in their relationship, we examined The Supermodel Effect, which poses an age-old debate: Do smokin’ girlfriends enhance or detract from an athlete’s on-field performance? (We proceed on the assumption that their off-field performance is just fine).

Supermodel Adriana Lima Gets Engaged to Marko Jaric

If we really wanted to get catty, and we really do, we’d point the—wait for it—finger at Buchholz’s sweetie, Penthouse Pet Erica Ellyson. (You know, the chick whose girlfriend status represents Buchholz’s “moving up the ladder” from his ex, a Victoria’s Secret model. This is according the Clay’s clearly-an-expert-in-classy-gals Dad). The fact that the pitcher is banging dating an uninhibited va-va voomy type suggests that any number of injuries could be sustained if certain activities got, um, creative. Or even if she’s just a really, really strong raker.

Then again, it could just be a legitimate pitching injury. We aren’t even sure if those two crazy lovebirds are still together.

Buchholz Breaks a Nail, But Can We Blame the Penthouse Pet?

And Super Bowl aside, European jet-setter Tom Brady had a season for the QB record books. It also marks his first full NFL season with Gisele Bundchen at his side.

Now we can add Andy Roddick to the list of Athletes Who Improved After Getting a Little Something-Something From a Model. Just days after his engagement to swimsuit model Brooklyn Decker, Roddick broke his 11-game losing streak to Roger Federer at the Sony Ericsson Open. (Thanks to The Bee for sharing this!)

By the way, we heart Federer and are bummed to see his 2008 tanking. You know why he’s on a downward slide? Because he’s had the same girlfriend for many years, and she isn’t a model–super, swimsuit, or otherwise.

Please, for the sake of tennis history, could somebody please set him up with Karolina Kurkova?

More Proof That Model-Girlfriends Boost Athletic Performance

You may have heard by now that Clay Buchholz, he of the—pardon the pun—virgin shutout in September 2007, is seeing 2008 Penthouse Pet of the Year, Erica Ellyson.

His father, quite likely doing that whole living life through his son thing right about now, had this to say:

“I know he’s met her, gone out with her, but I don’t know if you consider that dating . . . but hey, a boy could do worse. It doesn’t surprise me any.”

Speaking of surprises, what amuses (and repulses) us is this insight into the elder Buchholz’s chick hierarchy:

“Last year up in Boston he was dating a Victoria’s Secret model, so he’s moving up the ladder . . . . I mean, he’s got pretty good taste.”

WTF? A Penthouse camera slut gal ranks higher on the “You’ve made it!” scale than a Victoria’s Secret model? ”Penthouse” and “classy” rarely appear in the same sentence, unless there’s a “definitely NOT” in there somewhere.

Here’s wishing Clay and his new honey hours of intense, passionate . . . conversation.

But the proof is there in two photos posted on PerezHilton.com: Victoria Beckham can smile! (Be sure to check out the results of the “Should Posh smile more?” quiz. Three guesses how we voted).  

Authorities are still unsure as to what caused David Beckham’s more be-bobbed half to crack a grin on not one but two occasions. Is it because the Spice Girls are breaking up (again)? Is it because Victoria’s Secret deemed her the World’s Sexiest Mom? Or is she just laughing at one of the Project Runway contestants while serving as judge for the finale?

To quote that early ’80s Tootsie Pop commercial where the little boy asks the owl, “How many licks does it take to get to the center of a Tootsie Pop?” . . .

“The world may never know.”

Breaking Beckham News: VICTORIA SMILES

In one corner, you have the Roger Clemens-Brian McNamee edition of Days of Our Lives. Adding to the overall “WTF?”-ness of the whole steroid shebang is the latest McNamee bombshell that he also injected the 7-time Cy Young winner’s wife Debbie Clemens with HGH.

But in another corner, thankfully, you have the Beckhams. They’re not embroiled in a steroid abuse scandal, they’re not licking their Super Bowl wounds as we imagine Tom Brady and Gisele Bundchen are, and they aren’t having a pre-Pro Bowl PDA-fest in Hawaii like Tony Romo and Jessica Simpson. They’re just being their sexy selves.

And the world shows its gratitude: David just got a World’s Sexiest Footballer* title while Victoria “Posh Spice” got a World’s Sexiest Mom nod from Victoria’s Secret (and if they say something’s sexy, we believe ‘em) as well as a coveted Project Runway guest judge spot.

Now of course, it would be much more fun to cover the Beckhams if they did something naughty (publicly), but sometimes it’s just nice to enjoy the pretty people as they are.

*Um, obviously this doesn’t refer to American Football, or it would have been a tie with Tom Brady.

Thank Goodness for the Beckhams

Brady’s teammates, not to mention Coach Bill Belichick, joked around with the oh-so-curious press concerning the star quarterback’s whereabouts. Said wide receiver Donte’ Stallworth: “Bill actually brought me in his office earlier this morning and asked me if I wanted to move to quarterback, and we’re going to put in a whole new offense.”

Inspired by such wit, we’ve put together a list of the top 10 answers the New England Patriots could have (and maybe should have) said in response to the big question,

1. “He’s got a ‘supporting‘ role in a new Bridget Moynahan film.”

Top 10 Answers to the Question, “Where is Tom Brady?”

Yesterday we gave a shout-out to Gisele Bundchen when we mentioned Tom Brady’s “casting” call. Before that we talked about  Eli Manning and his blend-with-the-crowd fiancee. We’ve also given Tony Romo and Jessica Simpson their fair share of virtual ink (again and again). And for a while, we had a good thing going with Brazilian supermodel-professional athlete couplings.

And then there’s Lindsey Paulat, the Annie-Get-Your-Gun girlfriend of Cedrick Wilson of the Pittsburgh Steelers.

Hmm . . . how do we put this delicately? She’s, um, in a class by herself.

Why so? Well, Paulat engaged in a 12-hour standoff with police over the weekend. The showdown took place at Wilson’s Pennsylvania home and 70 or so neighbors were evacuated (as a precaution). She was charged with aggravated assault and recklessly endangering another person.

The other person? Her mom. (Yeah, we cringed, too).

Earlier that day, Paulat and Wilson got into a spat and the wide receiver beat feet. Paulat’s mother came over afterwards to talk and during that special bonding session, Wilson’s girlfriend fired two shots into the wall. (The handgun was Wilson’s). Mama left and the fuzz buzzed in shortly thereafter.

Suddenly, having a hot but jinx-inducing girlfriend or being a paparazzi magnet just because you’re dating a Victoria’s Secret model don’t sound too bad after all.
