You may have heard of this little mega-budget blockbuster called Avatar (due in theaters this December), which is director James Cameron’s first film since Titanic. Panasonic is teaming with 20th Century Fox to help promote the film, providing its “Full HD 3D” technology to help launch a global advertising campaign. Panasonic will show Avatar footage in Full HD 3D at multiple events, to give consumers a taste of what’s possible with modern 3D technology.

Among Panasonic and Fox’s intentions are plans to bring customized tractor trailers that hold 103-inch Panasonic VIERA Plasma HDTVs (pictured) and Blu-ray Disc Players. Consumers will get a taste of both 3D images from the movie, and Panasonic’s 3D home theater tech.

Avatar is set on the distant moon Pandora, where a reluctant hero embarks on a journey of redemption and discovery as he leads a heroic battle to save a civilization. Panasonic’s team-up with Fox to promote the movie was preceded by support from Panasonic hardware throughout its filming.

One of the things that must happen for online video to become as ubiquitous as TV is for it to become as easy as TV. Computers intimidate people; they want single-purpose appliances as simple as a toaster.
Some companies are trying to make that happen with TV set-top boxes that channel YouTube content, but Panasonic is skipping the box entirely with their new PZ-850 Viera TV. Chris Albrecht posts a sneak peek.
