Heading into Week 14 of the 2009 NFL season, Young is questionable due to a knee injury. Although many in the organization believe that he’s iffy to play, Young thinks he will play — and there’s no reason to think he’s lying.

On the season, Young is 107-for-175 for 1251 yards and six passing touchdowns. He also has 175 yards rushing and a rushing touchdown. He’s also limited his mistakes as he has only three interceptions and one lost fumble.

If Young isn’t able to go, Kerry Collins would get the start. Collins was very successful last year but fell on his face this season. That said, the Titans will be favored with either Young or Collins at quarterback this weekend. That’s the beauty of playing the lowly St. Louis Rams.

Is Vince Young Going to Play?

A solid showing is exactly what he showed in the Titans’ preseason finale on Thursday against the Green Bay Packers. Young had a hand in two touchdowns as the Titans won the exhibition game 27-13.

Young finished 7-for-12 for 85 yards and a touchdown. On the ground, the quarterback who played his college football at the University of Texas, Young ran five times for 38 yards and a touchdown.

Overall, Young had some promising signs in 2009 preseason play. He had five touchdowns but also had three interceptions and also fumbled a couple times.

In Tennessee, Kerry Collins is the starter at quarterback. Young and Patrick Ramsey are the backups at the position. Without an injury or extreme poor play by Collins, it’s unlikely that Young will play much during the 2009 NFL season.

Vince Young Shines in Titans Victory

In the Steve McNair funeral video below, you can see Ray Lewis of the Baltimore Ravens and Vince Young of the Tennessee Titans talk about his life. Young was especially emotional about his mentor passing away.

Other notable people at the funeral were Brett Favre, Titans head coach Jeff Fisher, Jay Cutler of the Chicago Bears and former NFL quarterback Doug Williams.

Police in Nashville have concluded that McNair was murdered by Sashel Kazemi. Kazemi, who had been dating McNair for a few months, killed herself after killing McNair.

Steve McNair is survived by his wife Mechelle and four sons.

Recently, Young upped the ante with his comments to a Baltimore television station. Instead of sounding like a player ready to play his best to win the starting gig, Young sounds more like a player who is ready to give an ultimatum.

Said Young to WMAR-TV in Baltimore: “I definitely want to get back out there playing ball and picking up where I left off, winning games and having a good time with my teammates and with the fans. At the same time, if them guys don’t want me to be in there, it’s time for me to make a career change for myself. Because the fact is I’m ready to play ball. If they’re not ready for me to play ball, then somebody is.”

The Titans are lucky they have Fisher, one of the very best coaches in the NFL, to handle this. Expect it to get ugly.

Vince Young Wants to Play

I’m not sure what the appeal is that when you get to be a well-paid football player you immediately need to do something that might jeopardize your position. While I’m a huge fan of Nelly, I think throwing money out into a crowd is not a great idea. (Plus, if he gets hurt you just know he’s going to be thinking of the night he tossed bills out to a crowd of strangers.)

Vince Young Makes It Rain

A former first round pick out of Tulane, Ramsey was once a highly regarded quarterback. But after failing to ever lay claim to the starting quarterback job with the Washington Redskins, Ramsey went on to play for the New York Jets and the Broncos. In his career, he has thrown 35 touchdowns and 30 interceptions while completing 56% of his passes.

In Tennessee, Ramsey will likely be the team’s third string quarterback behind Kerry Collins and Vince Young. However, head coach Jeff Fisher has indicated that the position is up for grabs. With a great offseason and an impressive exhibition showing by any of the options, the order of the quarterback position in Tennessee could change drastically.

Patrick Ramsey Joins the Tennessee Titans

Young has underwhelmed ever since a strong rookie campaign in 2006. In his sophomore season with Tennessee, Young had 17 interceptions to go with only nine touchdown passes. Last year, Young started three games before losing the starting role to Collins. In his three games, he had one touchdown and two interceptions. His most memorable moment of the season came when he was hesitant in returning to the game after getting booed in the team’s home opener.

With Collins at quarterback, the Titans had a very successful season in 2008. After beginning the year 10-0, Tennessee lost to the New York Jets in Week 12 but bounced back to finish the season at 13-3. However, in the playoffs, the Titans lost 13-10 against the Baltimore Ravens to end their run prematurely.

Collins didn’t put up spectacular numbers but he did a fine job of managing Tennessee’s offense. He finished the year with 2,676 yards, 12 touchdowns and seven interceptions.

For Young to win back the starting job, he will have to show the team that he’s willing to put in the work during the offseason, play well during the exhibition season and prove that he’s capable of being a leader.

Huh?

Durant was a great player and all, but does a one-and-done player who didn’t win a thing while with the Longhorns deserve to be in the same class as Vince Young, Ricky Williams, Roger Clemens and T.J. Ford?

In his one and only season at Texas in 2006-07, Durant was an All-American, the Big 12 Player of the Year and National Player of the Year among other numerous awards he received.

He opted out for the NBA Draft and had a very solid season for the Seattle (soon to be Oklahoma City) Supersonics winning NBA Rookie of the Year honors.

But does he really deserve to have his jersey retired at a school known for its outstanding athletes who all stayed for more than one year?
