And this sharing of information that has been started by FriendFeed seems to grow and grow.
And the idea behind seem twofold:

First, to create a financial lifestream. This is done by selecting certain financial events. The lifestream will enable its creator and user to monitor incomes and expenses.

Second, to share this lifestream with friends so that the creator can be given advise about on his financial matters. Friends as financial advisers.

I am not quite sure if this is for everyone. It could be helpful among family members or individuals with common financial interests ie they are investing money jointly. Or even among family members who are geographically far apart.

It is a no fuss way of sharing financial information. One just has to be careful on what financial information one wants to share. This is sensitive stuff.

One often hears the phrase a river of information. And indeed most informations flows like a river specially if one were to subscribe to an RSS feed. But what makes bathing or fishing in the river worth it? And it is what is in it. So it is with an RSS feed. And the RSS feed of Cherwell Newspaper seems to be potentially interesting. But Cherwell is not a mainstream newspaper but an independent student newspaper of Oxford University. The online version of the paper was called Cherwell24 now its just Cherwell.

So what makes Cherwell interesting?

It was the launching pad of several known journalists and writers like BBC Newsnight reporter and author Michael Crick, Graham Greene and Evelyn Waugh.

The paper bested several dailies with the engagement of Charles, Prince of Wales to Diana Spencer.

The paper was also the first newspaper that broke the story that Chelsea Clinton planned take up a masters degree source at Oxford.

Being an Oxford University-based newspaper has its advantages. Even if one is independent but this is what makes the newspaper interesting.

It is a good news source also because Oxford University as an academic institution conducts research. As such, potential discoveries or findings might be found here.

At present there are two RSS feeds for the news and for the comments:

News RSS Feeds can be found at the Front Page

Comment RSS Feeds can be found at the Comment Page

The feed themselves are partial feeds containing only the title and a one sentence summary or description of the article of the file.

One confusing bit about the site is the page called RSS Feeds and is an explanation about the RSS feeds but not a list nor directory of RSS feeds available. This can be confusing because the page does not give a link to the RSS feed. The user then has no choice but to go back to the Front Page.

Interesting site but I have they get to include full text articles in their feed and more visible ways to get the RSS feeds.

The aggregator has a simple set-up and quite easy to navigate. On top of the site is a list of Today’s Top Stories. The articles/post are arranged chronologically so it sort of looks like a blog. And the feeds that are aggregated can be seen of the left side bar. Arranged into four groups:

Web & Technology

Gadgets & Gizmos

Hot Bookmarks

Companies & Startups

There is even an RSS feed that combine all tech blogs in the Quazion list. But I think it needs some tinkering because it does not seem to work.

This seems to be an interesting website. It would be great if the RSS icon worked. So for now I will bookmark it.

The news is source from RSS feeds of three sites: Law.com, LexisNexis, and CNN Law.
Joshua Fuhrmark, Managing Director of LegalFish said,“Rather than time-consuming and relentless searching, RSS feeds allow these legal news sites to work for you by constantly keeping the consumer filled in,” [Source]

Mr Fuhrmark hopes that consumers will bookmark the LegalFish Newsroom pages (here) because having easy access to legal news will educate consumers and help them select the most adequate lawyer or law firm best suited for their case.

LegalFish is the first to make use of RSS feeds within the Attorney-Client Matching (ACM) industry.

This is an interesting aggregation of feeds of three of major news and information provider as was previously mentioned – Law.com, LexisNexis, and CNN Law.

The news page is filled with aggregated news from the three law-focused websites. Basically what you get from the page are a list of news article or posts from the three. Most of them are free and easy to get to. However, for Lexis-Nexis Mealy Publication search is for free but you have to pay for whatever post or article you have received.

There seems to be no RSS Icon and feed for the news page itself. Maybe it is still to be added. LegalFish has two others sites UK and Canada but there seems to be only one newsroom page and it is located on website of the Chicage office of LegalFish.

When you see a good idea or an important discussion you mention it. I came across this post, What’s acceptable when aggregating RSS feeds?, at aidanf.net. The post tells us of debate that involved Damien Mulley, Maman Poulet and Something.ie about aggregating RSS feeds.
The debate between the three is interesting because in a sense its a case of what a blogger or bloggers feel about their content being syndicated. The debate though only figures as a introduction to the actual topic of the post. And it is what is and what is not good RSS aggregating practices.

It is an interesting read and very timely because: (i) Aggregating of RSS feeds have been on the irise (to say the least) and (ii) some web publishers, bloggers and websites, have been placing terms of use in their RSS feeds.

Aiden tackles the different ways RSS is aggregated and how these are considered bad and good. He tackles nearly issue concerning aggregating The post is very informative and important. It is a worth while read. But at the end of the day one has to make a stand or have an opinion on what is proper and improper of aggregating RSS feeds.

One simple rule of thumb: Do not pass the content of the RSS feed as your own and always cite the source of the RSS feed.

One way is to look out at the window and figure out from the cloud formation and temperature whether it would be sunny or wet. Another way would be to subscribe to the weather RSS feed of your city or town from WeatherBug.

Free WeatherBug RSS gives you the same live local weather millions have come to rely on. The feed delivers customized local conditions, forecasts, and more for your area or ZIP code of your choosing. Start using Free WeatherBug RSS today to get the most accurate weather available through your favorite RSS reader.[Source]

How do you do it?

Simple just go the site and then click on Start Free WeatherBug RSS Feed button. This will take you to form where you have to fill in the necessary information and information you want to receive and these include:

Current Conditions (Text/HTML[?])

Forecast (Text/HTML[?])

Community Photos

Temperature Celsius/Fahrenheit

Country

City

State (Applicable only if USA or Canada)

Zip Code (Applicable only if USA or Canada)

It will take only a few minutes to do this. And you get your weather tidbits and forecast delivered to you. A few observations about the service: (i) I was unable to get an RSS feed for my country so there maybe some countries that will not have or will be difficult to get an RSS feed, I will try again tomorrow. (ii) Additional weather information may be included in the near future.

The forum and RSS feed were added to provide Greenberg’s fans and readers with the useful and comprehensive travel information on a real time basis.

Of course the the website and the service is enhanced by Greenberg himself, who is well known in the United States as a travel expert:

Greenberg has become known and trusted by millions for the advice, tips and information he imparts as the Travel Editor for NBC’s Today show, CNBC and MSNBC, as the author of The New York Times best-selling Travel Detective series of books, as the host of the nationally syndicated Peter Greenberg Worldwide radio show, and through his appearances as an expert guest on a range of television programs including the Oprah Winfrey Show and The View. [Source]

RSS Feed .. rather RSS Feeds

A hop and skip to the site’s RSS page , here, reveals that around eleven feeds are offered and they are grouped as (i) Peter’s Travel News – the main RSS feed – and (ii) Travel Deals and promotions – which covers a very diverse array of topics from Family Travel deals to Urban Travel and Exotic Travel adventures.

Aside from the lack of an RSS button at the homepage, which I suspect is more for aesthetic reason more than anything else, The use of the RSS feed is quite good. It is a pity that I do not travel around that corner of the world.
