MPB Poker Player Profile: Hoyt Corkins

From the archives over at MoneyPokerBonus.com:
Hoyt Corkins AKA ‘The Alabama Cowboy’ is known off the table as being one of the nicest guys you could ever want to meet. On the table, though, he is one of the most aggressive and heartless players around barreling into his opponents until they have little to no option but to wait for the nuts to try to hurt him: and that’s often exactly when he folds.
Watch any of Hoyt Corkins’s appearances on any of the seasons of World Poker Tour, and you’ll probably hear the phrase ‘All in’ more than you could …read more

Line Between Donk And Genius

It’s a fine line between donk and genius. You make a marginal play and it works for you, you look like you could see the future, you make one and it goes wrong, you look like an idiot poker donk minbetting into a massive pot.
Daniel Negreanu tends to make a lot of weird looking plays but they all are usually based either on his ability to read beyond your average joe and his willingness to gamble it up when he needs to.
Here’s a clip from the World Poker Tour that’s about as perfect example of donk vs genius as …read more

World Poker Tour Running 7’s

I totally feel like all my pots turn out like these, at least the big ones.
It does happen in real life, yes.
It’s cards.
Bad beat whining isn’t fun or pretty. Sure, it’s annoying to lose, but that’s the game.
Me and the game are gonna just mutually stare at each other for a while though, I think.
What can you do.

New WPT Tonight

New WPT Tonight

There’s a new episode of the World Poker Tour season on tonight in their new home on GSN.
Barry Greenstein is main ‘big name’ at the table. Along, as well, with Jonathon Little, who took down a WPT title earlier in the season.
Two of the other players are 19 years old, as the event took place in Canada, and 18 yr olds are allowed up in that.
Once again, the Canadians take us down.
The new WPT on GSN website is pretty swank.

WPT Thoughts?

WPT Thoughts?

The new season of WPT started off last night, pretty decent action I guess, though a little stilted maybe. Phil Ivey couldn’t get a hand. Darrel ‘Gigabet’ Dicken looked frighteningly on the verge of death from too many hours out of the sun. That guy is probably a good argument for why not to play online poker. Except, well, he’s ballin, I’m sure.  Though only in the money sense.
Hopefully WPT picks up from there.
I don’t know, poker programming just ain’t what it used to be. Or maybe I’ve just seen the same thing too many times. Or maybe there are …read more

New WPT Season on GSN Begins Tonight

Just a quick reminder: for those of you who are fans of the World Poker Tour, the new season kicks off tonight on its new home with GSN, at midnight. It was also on at 9:00 PM. I’m not sure of the line up but I know Phil Ivey is one, which always fun. Hopefully this time he won’t bust with AQ, which I think is the hand he’s gone out with all 3 times he’s been on the show (maybe there are others too).
Hopefully you have GSN.
They’re also running a Casino Night theme right now so they’re running back …read more

WPT Moves to GSN

If you haven’t heard by now, the next season of the World Poker Tour is going to be showing up on GSN rather than the Travel Channel. Which kind of sucks for me because I only have access to GSN when I visit my parents, so I may have to invest in a TiVo for them for my mom’s next birthday.
The show will make its GSN debut on Monday March 24, with a 9 PM ET broadcast time, the first of 23 2-hour episodes for the inaugural season.
Here’s a list of tournaments being shown:

March 24: Mirage Poker Showdown
March 31: Part …read more

World Poker Tour moves to GSN

As many already know, the World Poker Tour’s new season will be featured only on GSN. That kind of bums me out since I don’t have access to GSN except when I visit my parents, so I probably won’t be able to see it as much.
Going to see a taping of a WPT final table is free and open to the public, though, which is kind of cool. Here’s a list of upcoming filmings from the WPT website that might be interesting if you’re in the area:
