I actually didn’t know the difference between a raw bench press and a shirted bench press up until this year. I just never thought about doing anything but a regular bench. It turns out that raw bench press is just a traditional bench press, unassisted. The alternatives are many, but primarily a non-raw bench press consists of lifting with a “shirt”. The shirt is designed to help bench pressers lift very heavy weight.

However, if you’re looking for funny, your best bet is this pair of water-related blurbs we spotted in The Week whilst hard at work on the elliptical tonight.
First, we came across story about an unfortunate German fellow who went skinny dipping with his pals, fled when the fuzz showed up, and ended up—start cringing early for this one—jumping into a hedge of nettles. VIDEO: The World Record That Wasn’t (100m Sprint)

This was a weekend of close-but-no-cigars and plot twists in sports.
First the Angels lost a no-hitter that wasn’t technically a no-hitter to the Dodgers.
Then, Tyson Gay (or Tyson Homosexual, according to one giggle-triggering faux pas by a Christian site) set a world record by sprinting 100m in 9.68 seconds during a qualifying round for the U.S Olympic team. Thanks to a pesky tailwind, however, the record isn’t official.

Darren Taylor of Colorado set a world record proving just how much some people crave that 15 minutes of fame for highest dive into a shallow body of water. Move over, Mark Spitz.
Giving new meaning to the expression “taking a long walk off a short pier”, Taylor did a man-that-had-to-hurt! plunge of 35 feet into 12 inches of water into a kiddie pool.
Can you imagine being this guy’s neighbor when he first started to practice for this event?
