Shirts are so tight that they actually require a tremendous amount of force to even bring your arms down. When you’re lifting the weight up, the shirts act like a spring for bringing the weight up. This is how you hear of guys bench pressing 1000 pounds or more.

I’m not a fan of it. My thought is you lift the weight you can and when you can’t lift any more without outside help, that’s all you can lift. I wouldn’t feel right with a bench press shirt. If I bench press, I only want a raw score.

However, if you’re looking for funny, your best bet is this pair of water-related blurbs we spotted in The Week whilst hard at work on the elliptical tonight.

First, we came across story about an unfortunate German fellow who went skinny dipping with his pals, fled when the fuzz showed up, and ended up—start cringing early for this one—jumping into a hedge of nettles. How did the officers find him? They just followed the screams. (Tough call as to whether this guy or snakebite-to-the-Johnson fella suffered the worse fate).

Second, this tidbit on starfish gave us a two-minute laughing fit (and no doubt made the guy on the neighboring elliptical crinkle his brow): The island of Grenada has launched a don’t-use-starfish-as-dog-Frisbees campaign. Looks like Patrick from Spongebob Squarepants can reconsider that Caribbean vacation after all.

Prickly Skinny Dipping and Starfish Frisbees

First the Angels lost a no-hitter that wasn’t technically a no-hitter to the Dodgers.

Then, Tyson Gay (or Tyson Homosexual, according to one giggle-triggering faux pas by a Christian site) set a world record by sprinting 100m in 9.68 seconds during a qualifying round for the U.S Olympic team. Thanks to a pesky tailwind, however, the record isn’t official.

VIDEO: The World Record That Wasn’t (100m Sprint)

Giving new meaning to the expression “taking a long walk off a short pier”, Taylor did a man-that-had-to-hurt! plunge of 35 feet into 12 inches of water into a kiddie pool.  

Can you imagine being this guy’s neighbor when he first started to practice for this event?

“Honey, Darren next door just jumped off a card table into a kiddie pool. . . wait, just now he leapt off their deck . . . and now—is that his wife?—I think she just threw him off the roof and said something about ‘Breaking records? I’ll show you breaking!’”
