China’s Liu Breaks Three World Records in Weightlifting Win

Liu Chunhong of China earned the Gold Medal in the women’s 69kg weighlifting event, the 6th Gold for the Chinese weighlifters. Liu, the defending Olympic champion in this event, set a world record in the snatch, the clean and jerk, and in total points.
Oxana Silvenko of Russia earned the Silver Medal and Natalya Davydova of Ukraine was awarded the Bronze.

Another World Record for Michael Phelps

Michael Phelps continues to show that he is worthy of all of the pre-Olympic hype as he set yet another World Record last night at the US Olympic Qualifying Meet in Omaha–this one in the men’s 200m individual medley. Phelps, driven by a great performance from 2nd place finisher, Brian Lochte, completed the race with a time of 1:54.98. Both men will compete in the event in Beijing. Here is a video of the race:

Athens Olympic champion Zhu Qinan, who smashed the world record of men’s 10m air rifle with 703.7 points at the Chinese City Games, was gearing up to defend his Olympic title in Beijing.
“My aim is the gold medal of the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games,” said Zhu. “If the Olympic Games open tomorrow, I am ready now.” Men’s 10-meter air rifle champion in Athens, the sharpshooter from Wenzhou of east China’s Zhejiang Province admitted that his goal in the ongoing City Games was not to break the world record, but the national one.

Meet Shirley Strickland de la Hunty, Sprint & Relay Specialist

Sprint and Relay Specialist Shirley Strickland de la Hunty was known to be a great athlete, competing in the sport, athletics, mainly in relay. She is also a record-breaker. She is the first woman to win seven Olympic medals and to successfully defend her Olympic title in the 80m hurdles (1952-1956).

Meet Olympic Champion and Record-holder Michael Phelps

American swimmer, Michael Phelps is a Baltimore native who has won seven gold medals and set five world records in his career, so far. Sheesh. He’s only 22 years old!
Phelps is also the current holder of four Olympic records and four individual and two team world long distance records. During 2004 Athens Games, he won six gold medals and two bronze ones. And currently holding 12 world titles.
How impressive a track record is that?! Goodness.

Who Broke the Men’s 110m Hurdles World Record?

He goes by the name of Liu Xiang. He’s the superstar hurdler of China.
Liu broke the world record last 2006 in Luasanne, Switzerland. He clocked 12.88 seconds.
He’s currently scheduled to compete in the following 2007 competitions:

Osaka Grand Prix – May
Eugene Grand Prix – June
Shanghai’s Golden Grand Prix – September

However, his top target for 2007 is winning a World Championships title in Osaka, Japan.
The 23-year old Liu is an Olympic gold medallist during the 2004 Athens Games.

Hackett eyes Thorpe’s 400m Freestyle World Record

“Grant Hackett will continue to race Ian Thorpe.” The article began.
It’s been all over the news how everyone, athletes and fans alike, have been voicing out how it’s been too soon for Ian Thorpe to retire from his career. Thorpe and Grant Hackett have been household names in the Australian pools.

Olympic and Commonwealth Games Champion, Anna Meares, today broke her own World Record for the 500m time trial in the morning session of the UCI Track Cycling World Cup at Sydney’s Dunc Gray Velodrome today.
