Nicklaus on Asian Golf, Equipment and Tiger

Golfing legend Jack Nicklaus recently surfaced in Kuala Lumpur, and the 69-year-old gave some surprising thoughts on golf in Asia, new equipment, and Tiger Woods.  Nicklaus believes the balance of power in golf is shifting to Asia, and that one day Chinese players will come to dominate the sport.  This comes on the heels of Asia’s first major champion, Y.E. Yang of South Korea, who earlier this year defeated Tiger Woods to capture the PGA Championship.  He bases his ideas on the lessened effects of the recession in Asian countries, specifically China, and golf’s presence in the 2016 Olympics as …read more

Yang, Woods to Renew Rivalry in Shanghai

It took a while, but it seems like we finally found a worthy adversary on tour for Tiger Woods.  Unfortunately for Phil Mickelson, Padraig Harrington and the rest, they’ve taken a backseat to Y.E. Yang, the 37-year-old South Korean who has bested Tiger Woods twice now, first at the 2006 HSBC Champions event, and more recently at the 2009 PGA Championship.  Yang will try to make it three-for-three at the 2009 version of the HSBC Champions, which takes place in Shanghai this coming November.
Along with Yang and Woods, the tournament also boasts the defending champion Sergio Garcia, and 2007 winner …read more

Yang Finds Himself on Presidents Cup Team

As the saying goes, “to the victor go the spoils,” and that couldn’t be more true for 2009 PGA Championship winner Y.E. Yang.  In the span of a week, Yang has gone from being ranked No. 110 in the world, to besting Tiger Woods at Hazeltine, to becoming a member of the Presidents Cup International Team.
With his improbable victory at the PGA Championship, Yang saw his world ranking  jump from No. 110 to No. 34, which put him as the ninth-highest ranked golfer not eligible for either the American Presidents Cup team or the European Ryder Cup team.  The Presidents …read more

Yang Outduels Woods at PGA Championship

That collective gasp heard around the world from millions of golf fans was a response to something they’ve never witnessed in their life.
Tiger Woods losing a major, on the final day, after having the outright lead.  Instead of the usual comparisons to Jack Nicklaus and his record 18 major victories, golf pundits can now sit and discuss whether Woods choked (he didn’t), whether he’s finished (he’s not), and how in the heck did he lose to Y.E. Yang (for that matter, who the heck is Y.E. Yang?).  At this moment, Yang is the winner of the 91st PGA Championship, after …read more
