I’ve been noticing that abbreviations and misspellings are becoming more and more prevalent throughout the younger community. It became mainstream when I was a teenager (I am currently 21, for those who don’t know), so I even grew up during this whole mess. Some of my friends aren’t even able to carry on a serious conversation (online) without constantly misspelling words and using abbreviations – not because they want to type efficiently, but because they see that language as some new standard and see nothing wrong with it. I have even had people ask me why I capitalize the first letter of my sentences!

The point of effective communication is to speak a common language that is understandable, readable, and repeatable. Should this be the new standard? Should formalities be shoved aside to save space on paper? What if everyone actually understands it well?

Many young entrepreneurs like to break new ground and be that “renegade boss.” Does this stand a chance at becoming a new office standard with this upcoming generation? i mean srsly guyz! wtf???

The greatest gift I have ever been given was an education. If there is one piece of advice I could give to potential young entrepreneurs, it would be to get an education. The human mind is a fascinating piece of equipment. Everyone has the same potential to expand his/her mind to the same potential, but some aren’t given the opportunity. Thanks to Babylune’s Generous December Writing Project, there is an opportunity to give the future innovators a chance.

The idea is this – pick a charity you are passionate about, submit the article, and potentially win a donation to the charity. More people writing means more donations. Pretty simple concept. The organization I would love to support is the Inner-City Scholarship Fund. This fund assists poor families in New York City who can’t afford to support their children through a basic education.

I’ve always said that a college education is important – but without a high school diploma or GED, you are a ship without a sail. I believe many charities are crucial to the world’s future, but I believe this charity has the potential to change the world. Am I being melodramatic? I don’t think so. Let’s take a look at some of the statistics:

98% of the high school seniors under this program graduate

97% of those graduates pursue a higher education

Supports nearly 42,000 students

So who are these students? These students could cure diseases. These students could be your future business partners. These students are our future, and they NEED an education. Here are some more statistics:

93% of the students are minorities

More than half live near or below the federal poverty line

Over 50% of the students live in single parent homes

This organization runs over 100 schools in the New York City area, and every cent makes a difference. If you want to donate, here is the contact information:

Remember – it doesn’t take a college education to start a business; but building a solid foundation is imperative. The ICSF gives kids a chance to build that foundation.
