Young Republican entrepreneurs and business professionals prefer Ron Paul.

An audience consisting of people from ages 30-49 are wanting to reach out to their inner youth while maintaining a good level of their maturity. What does this mean? Sell your product to this group if it is easy to use, potentially technologically advanced, and helps boost efficiency. Though being incredibly vague, that description can be easily expanded. For instance, if you were to sell an automatic, mountable organizing rack. People younger than 30 will not have the money to get something like that for their apartment/house, and those 50 and above will often not want to bother with new technology (though I do know quite a few that would)… especially technology that requires mounting. Ages 30-49 is perfect for something like this. Let’s look at this iPhone commercial as being representative for this age group – I chose this because it chose practicality over trends for an expensive product.

A few weeks ago I made a post for Babylune’s Generous December (here’s the ICSF post I made). The Inner City Scholarship Fund just received $25 from Heidel and Associates, where Dr. Heidel says “As a businessman and psychiatrist I certainly agree that a high-quality, supportive education is a wonderful opportunity for all children,” Dr. Heidel said. “It prepares them for meaningful careers, including entrepreneurial pursuits. Helping children from poorer backgrounds become educated is truly good for them and our society.” To find out more, read Babylune’s post!

Okay, so I got real excited. I wrote the original article because I firmly believe education is the best foundation for success. In the spirit of the holidays and to really fortify my stance, I matched the $25 to make the total donation $50 (this is huge for a college student)! I want to emphasize that every single cent counts. Even if you can’t afford to donate, spread the word. I believe this is one of the most beneficial charities out there – it represents our future (you could be funding a future President!).

People aren’t out to destroy your idea. They are out to compete and prove you are competitive. If you become pessimistic, you are no longer competing for your success. If you become pessimistic, your ideas will never become complete.

Sorry about the late Sunday-Monday news, everyone. I am studying for my finals, so I am getting a bit behind with what really matters – surfing the internet! This week has been pretty quiet, and I haven’t really stumbled upon much about young entrepreneurs. Either way, here’s your belated Sunday news:

HA! We beat onrec.com to the punch with this story (after we were beaten by another site). The only reason I am posting this article is because it has an image attached from the actual awards ceremony. The article didn’t even mention Oliver Bishop winning the award WITH Dan McGuire… poor Oliver.

An interesting article I found was CNN’s response to a question asking how you can get press coverage. Here is basically what the article says:

Establish yourself as an expert in the field

Sign up for Google alerts on your subject

Email editors offering your spin – but don’t annoy them

I’m assuming that isn’t a guaranteed way of getting coverage, but it’s a pretty simple start!

If you have been habitually reading the Hatch (the Hatch, being BossHatch… yes, I am trying to come up with a fun word to use) – or if you read my article on Saturday, this article proves to have mega-relevance. Never heard someone use mega-relevance? Let me be the first. As I was saying… this article has some mega-relevance (I abuse fun words). Marci Alboher of the New York Times writes about where you can find the money to move out of your job to start your own business.

The basic gist of the article is this: save, stash, and borrow if you have to. Now that I have mastered the total obvious, I’ll have to ask you to read the article before I do a total analysis on effective saving and spending habits for young entrepreneurs (thanks to a lack of time).

I have an exam at 8AM and it is currently 4:12AM. Wish me luck.

I’ve been noticing that abbreviations and misspellings are becoming more and more prevalent throughout the younger community. It became mainstream when I was a teenager (I am currently 21, for those who don’t know), so I even grew up during this whole mess. Some of my friends aren’t even able to carry on a serious conversation (online) without constantly misspelling words and using abbreviations – not because they want to type efficiently, but because they see that language as some new standard and see nothing wrong with it. I have even had people ask me why I capitalize the first letter of my sentences!

The point of effective communication is to speak a common language that is understandable, readable, and repeatable. Should this be the new standard? Should formalities be shoved aside to save space on paper? What if everyone actually understands it well?

Many young entrepreneurs like to break new ground and be that “renegade boss.” Does this stand a chance at becoming a new office standard with this upcoming generation? i mean srsly guyz! wtf???

The greatest gift I have ever been given was an education. If there is one piece of advice I could give to potential young entrepreneurs, it would be to get an education. The human mind is a fascinating piece of equipment. Everyone has the same potential to expand his/her mind to the same potential, but some aren’t given the opportunity. Thanks to Babylune’s Generous December Writing Project, there is an opportunity to give the future innovators a chance.

The idea is this – pick a charity you are passionate about, submit the article, and potentially win a donation to the charity. More people writing means more donations. Pretty simple concept. The organization I would love to support is the Inner-City Scholarship Fund. This fund assists poor families in New York City who can’t afford to support their children through a basic education.

I’ve always said that a college education is important – but without a high school diploma or GED, you are a ship without a sail. I believe many charities are crucial to the world’s future, but I believe this charity has the potential to change the world. Am I being melodramatic? I don’t think so. Let’s take a look at some of the statistics:

98% of the high school seniors under this program graduate

97% of those graduates pursue a higher education

Supports nearly 42,000 students

So who are these students? These students could cure diseases. These students could be your future business partners. These students are our future, and they NEED an education. Here are some more statistics:

93% of the students are minorities

More than half live near or below the federal poverty line

Over 50% of the students live in single parent homes

This organization runs over 100 schools in the New York City area, and every cent makes a difference. If you want to donate, here is the contact information:

Remember – it doesn’t take a college education to start a business; but building a solid foundation is imperative. The ICSF gives kids a chance to build that foundation.

I have a mission for you aspiring entrepreneurs. This mission is critical and I want everyone to participate.
You are all going to be shopping this holiday season – don’t lie. While you are out, find one item in each store you visit and critique its design. Come up with a better way of accomplishing its task. Difficult? Yes. Mind-bending? Yes. Insane? Maybe. It could even be an item on a website.

I don’t care – as long as you come up with an improvement. I guess I’ll go first.

My product critique is the Ninja Remote. I purchased this remote a few days ago and have had some fun with it – however, it isn’t up to my ridiculously high standards.

Alright, here’s how it works. You hold down the mute button on the remote and it changes frequencies until it matches the correct frequency on the target television. When you see the TV mute, you know you have the correct frequency. How can it be improved? Well, here’s what I think can be done:

Add a small LED light to indicate when the remote is changing frequencies

A light would be the best addition to this remote because you would know when the remote runs out of batteries and when it is changing to a different frequency!

Now it’s your turn to pick out an item from a website or store to critique and improve!

Things to consider:

Safety

Ease of use

Cost of production

Efficiency

Aesthetic

Have fun with it!
